Senior Ben Hoff Leads Engineers Without Borders Project
December 2008: Ben Hoff, President of Engineers Without Borders, and Professor Andy Heydinger, EWB advisor, received a $10,000 grant from the Toledo Rotary Foundation for a water supply project in Los Sanchez, Honduras as reported in the following Channel 11 broadcast.

Omega Chi Epsilon visits First Grade Classroom
October 2008: Omega Chi Epilson presented a program on recycling to approximately 100 first graders at Central Elementary School on October 22. President Breanna Flower and a number of members talked about what and how to recycle as well as the role of chemical engineers in recycling.

Baldi Receives AIChE Freshman Award
October 2008: Allison Baldi is the recipient of the 2008 American Institute of Chemical Engineers (AIChE) Freshman Recognition Award. The Award is given to the AIChE Student Chapter member that was most active during their freshman year. Congratulations Allison!

Another Excellent Freshman Class
October 2008: The average GPA and ACT scores of our 2008 freshman class are identical to those of the 2007 class: 3.7 and 26, respectively. The number of high school valdectorians increased from 3 in 2007 to 4 in 2008.

Lakhapatri Selected for AIChE Travel Award
September 2008: Graduate student Satish Lakhapatri is the recipient of an AIChE Catalysis and Reaction Engineering Division travel award. The $400 award allows him to present the results of his research on novel steam reforming processes at the AIChE annual meeting in Philadelphia. His research advisor is Professor Abraham.

Varanasi Receives Award for Biofuel Research
September 2008: Professor Sasidhar Varanasi and colleagues Professor Patty Relue and Praveen Paripati are the recipients of a DOE award for the development of cost-effective biocatalysts to increase product yield in the biological conversion of lignocellulosic biomass. CHEE Student Co-hosts TV Show
September 2008: Jennifer Mondelli and CHEE student Shaun McDonald report on technological innovations in our region for public television station WGTE. The first installment of the montly seriesPlugged-Inairs on WGTE HD and WGTE TV30 Wednesday Sept 17th at 8:00pm.

Another Large Class in 08
August 2008: Professor Glenn Lipscomb is pictured with the Fall 2007 class. The department welcomed over 70 new students in 2007 and expects a similar number in Fall 2008.
