Professor Escobar Receives FRI/John G. Kunesh Award
September 2011: Professor Isabel Escobar is the 2011 recipient ofAIChE's FRI/John G. Kunesh Award from the Separations Division. The award is given to individuals under the age of 40 in recognition of outstanding contributions to the academic, scientific, technological, industrial, and service areas of separation technologies. Congratulations Dr. Escobar!

Ashkan Iranshahi Receives Offer From Air Liquide
September 2011: Ashkan Iranshahi, Master's candidate, has received a job offer from Air Liquide. Ashkan plans to complete his research on novel static mixing spacers for spiral wound reverse osmosis modules and start his new position by the end of the year. Congratulations Ashkan!

Professor Kim Leads International Nano-Sensor Collaboration
September 2011: Under the leadership of Professor Dong-Shik Kim, the University of Toledo, Air Force Institute of Technology (AFIT), and Kwangwoon University have formed the Nano-STAR (Nano-Sensor Technology Advancement and Research) Center to develop research and education programs on nano-sensors and nano-materials, especially for contaminant detection. Read more here. Professor Kim recently published an article on nanotechnology for nerve agent detection with his AFIT colleagues.

Renee Norrils Receives BA Degree
June 2011: We have another graduate! Renee Norrils graduated magna cum laude with a bachelor or arts in adult liberal studies in May. Her outstanding academic performance was recognized by membership in Phi Kappa Phi and Golden Key International Honor Societies. She will continue her studies in the Master of Liberal Studies Program in the fall.

UT Team Runs Membrane Society Meeting

Byungwook Park Receives Best Poster Award
June 2011: Congratulations to Byungwook Park for receiving the best poster award at the 2011 US-Korea Joint Symposium of Nanotechnology (US-Korea JSNT) held in Gyeongju, South Korea, 1-3 June! The symposium was hosted and supported by the US Air Force.

Terry Lou Receives Travel Award
June 2011: Congratulations to Terry Lou for receipt of a Klein Travel Award to support participation in the North American Membrane Society (NAMS) Meeting June 4-8, 2011 in Las Vegas!

May 2011: Congratulations to senior Jim Burtnett-Grigsby for winning an undergraduate summer research grant! Jim will be working with Dr. Kim on the project, "Evaluation of a Natural Polysaccharide as a Material for Alzheimer's Disease Intervention" this summer.
