Questions from Graduate Council to Interim President Matt Schroeder October 29 2024
It is exciting that the University will be achieving the Carnegie Classification of Institutions of Higher Education’s R1 status for the next adjustment in 2025. However, there is some concern about the efforts to maintain this status.
1. Does the University commit to the continued financial support of those non-STEM
graduate programs that provide important
benefits to the academic mission of UT and remain essential in support of research
productivity, including securing and undertaking
external grant funded projects, and our R1 designation?
2. As faculty retire and leave the University there has been a limited allotment
for replacement. Given declining faculty numbers, how
are you planning to manage this in order to avoid impacting the R1 status?
