Graduate-Professional Student Appreciation Week

Every year, we celebrate Graduate-Professional Student Appreciation Week with a lineup of programming to recognize and celebrate our graduate students! Students, staff, and faculty, navigate using the buttons below to learn more about this exciting tradition and how you can get involved.

History

Graduate-Professional Student Appreciation Week was founded by three graduate students: Tony Rosati, Gina Pearson, and Anne Holt of Georgetown University, American University, and Florida State University respectively. This week aims to appreciate graduate and professional students as well as highlight the contributions that they make to their universities, communities, and around the world.

Since its inception, National Association of Graduate-Professional Students member universities have adopted the celebration by offering a variety of programs to their students and traditionally observe it in the first week of April. The University of Toledo College of Graduate Studies will celebrate its third Graduate-Professional Student Appreciation Week in Spring 2024.

Important consideration: This year, Graduate-Professional Student Appreciation Week falls during Ramadan, a month during which Muslims fast daily starting shortly before sunrise until sunset. This means they are unable to eat or drink during fasting hours. If you are hosting any programs with food, consider adding to-go boxes!

For example, our office will be hosting a hot chocolate station event on both campuses, but will have packets and add-ons readily available for students to take home and enjoy later.

Need help brainstorming? Here are some ideas!

  • Hosting a breakfast or luncheon
  • Teaching a workshop on something useful like coding or relaxing like jewelry-making!
  • Setting up a station for students to decompress with coloring, puzzles, and snacks
