The College of Graduate Studies, Writing Center, and University Libraries are teaming up to bring you a series of interactive workshops on the various stages of the graduate writing process.
This bootcamp is designed for graduate students who are ready to forge ahead toward completion of their electronic thesis or dissertation. Whether you are preparing to write a thesis or dissertation, this series is for you!
You don't want to miss this deep-dive into all things graduate academic writing. If you register and attend 3 out of 5 sessions, you'll receive a certificate of completion!

Who Should Attend?
If you are in the writing stage of your thesis or dissertation, we encourage you to sign up and attend as many sessions as you can. This series is ideal for all students preparing to start writing or currently working on an ETD, but especially useful for students nearing the finish line in Fall 2025 or Spring 2026!

Bootcamp Sessions
Session 1: Getting Started with the Anatomy of the ETD
Thursday, September 18, 12:30 - 1:30 p.m. via Microsoft Teams
During this session, students will receive an introduction to the graduate academic writing genre, expectations and requirements for writing and completing an ETD, and general principles to follow during the writing process.

Graduate students:
- Preparing to start writing
- Starting to write
- Interested in learning about important deadlines and milestones of the process
Session 2: Researching Your Topic & Analyzing Sources
Thursday, October 2, 12:30 - 1:30 p.m. via Microsoft Teams
This session will take students through research databases, organizing their research, and analyzing their research for writing. This will also prepare students for the following Literature Review 101 session!

- Preparing to start writing
- Starting to write
- Seeking information on research strategies and resources
Session 3: Literature Reviews 101
Thursday, October 16, 12:30 - 1:30 p.m. via Microsoft Teams
Students will get to dive into the literature review writing process, understand the general format of literature reviews, and learn how to write and organize their literature reviews.
Who Should Attend?
Graduate students:
- Preparing to start writing
- Starting to write
- Wanting to learn about how to write a literature review (You don't have to be writing an ETD!)
Session 4: Publishing: Where to Start
Thursday, October 30, 12:30 - 1:30 p.m. via Microsoft Teams
This session will cover accessing journals for publishing work, database searching, Open Access, predatory publishing, “Read and Publish” resources, and essential do’s and don’ts of the publishing process.
Who Should Attend?
Graduate students:
- Anywhere in the writing process and interested in publishing their work
- Further into the writing stage and preparing to wrap up
- Nearing the finish line!
Session 5: Wrapping Up the ETD
Thursday, November 13, 12:30 - 1:30 p.m. via Microsoft Teams
The Thesis & Dissertation Bootcamp will wrap up with a final session providing students with resources to stay on track and complete their ETD, helpful writing strategies, information on copyrights and embargos, and an overview of the format review and submission process.
Who Should Attend?
Graduate students anticipating their thesis or dissertation defense and graduation in Fall 2025 or Spring 2026!
