What is the Responsible Conduct of Research Training?

The Responsible Conduct of Research Training is an annual training offered by the College of Graduate Studies in partnership with the Office of Research and Sponsored Programs to help graduate students and post-doctoral researchers succeed in their projects! This training covers topics such as:

  • Data acquisition and management
  • Conflicts of interest and commitment
  • Mentor/trainee responsibilities
  • Best publication practices
  • Artificial intelligence

And more!


Who Needs to Complete the Responsible Conduct of Research Training?

Graduate students and post-doctoral researchers must complete this training if the program sponsoring their research requires it. If you are unsure if you need to complete this training, contact your principal investigator (PI). 

Any graduate students and post-doctoral researchers who are obligated to take this training will receive correspondence from the College of Graduate Studies and will be assigned the training in two parts. 


What Will I Need to Complete for the RCR Training? 

To fulfill the RCR Training requirements, you'll have to do each of the below:

Part one: Online Training

First, you must complete the online CITI Training by 10:00 PM, Friday, February 13, 2026. 

To complete the required online CITI Training, you will log into Blackboard, navigate to "organizations" on the left hand menu, and then select "Responsible Conduct in Research."

Once you are in, you will then navigate again to the left hand menu of the organization and select "CITI Training Requirements." You'll find the instructions to get started!

If you are unable to locate the Blackboard organization, please contact gradsuccess@utoledo.edu for assistance.

Part Two: In-Person Training

You are required to attend the in-person training on Saturday, February 14, 2026 from 9:00 AM – 2:30 PM. This training will be in Room 2100 of Memorial Field House on Main Campus.

Please note that parking permits are required on weekends. Please be sure to park in a lot designated for your permit. For more information, visit the Park UToledo website

Please arrive by 8:30 AM for registration as the training will begin promptly at 9:00 AM. It is important to arrive on time and remain for the full training to receive credit for attendance.
