The University of Toledo, Recreation Therapy program enhances the human condition through development of innovative experiential and evidence-based learning opportunities for both traditional and non-traditional students in Recreational Therapy to prepare them for their unique professional journey.

Recreational Therapy program AY 2024-2025 Goal and Outcomes
The University of Toledo Recreational Therapy program prepares competent entry-level recreational therapists in the cognitive (knowledge), psychomotor (skills), and affective (behavior) learning domains as evidenced by offering a curriculum that provides students the opportunity to:
- integrate a comprehensive understanding of history, service models, theories, philosophies, ethics, credentials, profes¬sional conduct, evidence-based practices, and professional development within the field of recreational therapy (RT) practice
- develop the ability to independently and effectively screen, assess, and gather comprehensive and accurate data about patients/clients to inform the development of an appropriate course of action through creation of individualized treatment plans that include functional goals, modalities, facilitation techniques, and interventions
- explore, experience, and create evidence-based interventions and facilitation techniques to enhance patient/client outcomes, functionality, and independence in activities of choice
- develop skills necessary to understand, develop, and conduct evaluation and research to determine the effectiveness of treatment interventions and programs used to reach patient/client outcomes
- develop knowledge in the areas of administrative functions necessary in professional practice such as management of staff and volunteers, department oversite, professional advocacy, and professional development
- develop a strong foundation for recreational therapy practice through exploration of human anatomy and physiology, understanding of the psychology of human growth and development, abnormal psychology, and healthcare delivery of services
Recreational Therapy Objectives for AY 2024-2025
Students graduating from the Recreation Therapy program will collectively produce a pass rate on the NCTRC exam that is higher than the NCTRC average national pass rate.
Students graduating from the Recreation Therapy program will develop an understanding of professional development and credentialling maintenance within the field of Recreational Therapy AEB engaging in professional development experiences and completing RCRT 4950 Module 1 with a grade of 85% or higher.
Students graduating from the Recreation Therapy program will demonstrate an understanding of how to utilize assessment data to develop treatment plans AEB earning an average of 85% or higher on treatment plan assignments in RCRT 4810/4820/4830/4840 (RT Fieldwork courses). Students graduating from the Recreation Therapy program will demonstrate the ability to evaluate EBP practice treatment programs AEB earning an 85% or higher on program evaluation assignment in RCRT 4870.
