Amber Chuhy has been appointed assistant dean for admissions at The University of Toledo College of Law. Chuhy joined the staff at Toledo Law in 2016 as the assistant director of admissions. She was promoted to director in 2019 before assuming the role of interim dean for admissions in 2021. As assistant dean, Chuhy will oversee the recruitment and admission of incoming law students, including programming to help prepare students for the LSAT, welcoming new students to the Toledo Law community, and managing pathways with eight universities that offer an accelerated route to Toledo Law. Her appointment is effective as of May 1, 2022.

Chuhy is a 2012 graduate of Toledo Law. Going through law school, she was a single mom and non-traditional student coming back to school to pursue a career change. “Toledo Law is why I am who I am today,” said Chuhy, “It changed the direction and course of my life.”

While she is working full-time as assistant dean for the college, she hasn’t let go of her roots in practicing law. Chuhy and her father have an estate planning and probate practice, Bohl & Chuhy, LLC, and she is licensed to practice in both Michigan and Ohio. One of her favorite things about practicing law and working in higher education is her deep connection to people and building relationships with others.

Chuhy’s goal is to be as impactful and influential as her own faculty and staff were when she was a student at Toledo Law. Professor Emeritus Susan Martyn played a large role in guiding Amber through law school. Chuhy continues to have a friendship with Martyn, who was the one who reached out to Chuhy when a position on the admissions team became available. “I was so excited,” Chuhy said, “How could I not come back to Toledo Law when the opportunity presented itself? There isn’t a day that I don’t enjoy coming in to work. From the environment to the people – it's just a great place.”

Chuhy earned her B.A. from Lourdes University in Psychology and Criminal Justice, her J.D. from Toledo Law, and will complete her M.A. in Counseling Education in 2023 from UToledo. Upon completion of her M.A., she will continue on to earn her Ph.D. in Counseling Education as well.
