Toledo Law provides a number of resources to cultivate student success in the classroom and on the bar exam.

Academic Success and Bar Passage

Led by our Director of Academic Success and Bar Preparation, Toledo Law provides a number of resources to cultivate student success in the classroom and on the bar exam.

Our Academic Success program has several components to help prepare first year students for the demands of law school:

Seminars: In their first semester, students attend seminars focused on reading and understanding cases, case briefing, outlining, and preparing for exams to increase their skills and confidence in these areas.

Teaching Assistants: Each first year course has an upper-level law student who serves as a teaching assistant.  This former student excelled in the course and was selected by the professor to review course content, answer questions, and provide feedback to students in the class.

Academic Advising: Every student is paired with a faculty advisor who will assist with course planning and academic goal-setting.  Students meet their advisors at Orientation and work with them throughout law school.

Advanced Legal Analysis: Students with a first semester GPA below a set point take a course in their second semester that provides additional training in study skills, legal reasoning, and test-taking as well as feedback from the professor.

The Bar Passage program is designed to prepare both third year students and graduates for the bar exam.

BARBRI Bar Review: Law students starting in 2018 or later have access to the complete BARBRI Bar Review course starting their first semester. The course is available for all 50 states.

Bar Exam Preparation Course: Third year students may enroll in a three-credit course  that introduces them to the multiple choice questions, essays, and performance tests they will encounter on state bar exams.  Students review substantive topic outlines, complete practice questions, and take simulated bar exams while receiving feedback from the professor on their performance and areas for improvement.

Subject Area Review Lectures: Law graduates can take advantage of short, focused lectures given by Toledo Law professors to help them review and solidify their knowledge of bar exam subjects in the weeks leading up to the exam. Over 15% of our faculty teach or have taught national commercial bar preparation courses, so they are able to provide insights into test-taking strategies as well.

Post-Graduation Mentoring: Each graduate is assigned a faculty mentor who can provide support during bar exam study. Graduates can discuss their bar preparation coursework, ask subject matter questions, or share any concerns they may have about the exam.
