Structure of the Clerkship

The Obstetrics and Gynecology (Ob/Gyn) clerkship is a six-week program designed to prepare students and to provide students an opportunity to master the knowledge of reproductive physiology, anatomy, management of pregnancy and the common gynecologic problems that affect women. The students are carefully preceptored in a variety of learning environments and are tutored in observing in the operating room. This clerkship includes both outpatient and inpatient exposures.  Our clerkship offers multiple clinical sites during the rotation.  Students may be scheduled at ProMedica Toledo Hospital and Ob/Gyn office sites, AHEC or Riverside Methodist Hospital in Columbus, Ohio.  Students who are scheduled at our ProMedica Toledo Hospital and Ob/Gyn office sites will be exposed to inpatient care at Toledo Hospital and their ambulatory experiences will be at various office practices in our community. Our students scheduled for their AHEC (Bellevue, Bryan, Lima or  Van Wert, Ohio) will spend most of the rotation at their specific site.  Riverside students will spend their entire rotation in Columbus. A unique part of this clerkship is weekly Clinical Based Learning sessions with faculty, which allow students to discuss patient management problems and basic science issues relating to women's health

During the course of the clerkship students will participate in  OSCE (modeled after the Clinical Skills [CS] examination) and Breast and Pelvic exam evaluation to their clinical skills.  In addition, students will take their NBME the last day of the rotation.
