July 20, 2021: UToledo hosts Sixth COVID-19 Virtual Town Hall

In the latest of our virtual town hall series, experts share recent findings about how COVID-19 and its vaccines affect cardiovascular health.

Toledo Mayor Wade Kapszukiewicz and Dr. Matthew Hepburn explore the impact and outlook for the virus in northwest Ohio and nationally. Panelists field questions from community members in attendance.

June 16, 2021: Transform the Table – UToledo Diversity in Action

The University of Toledo College of Medicine and Life Sciences Alumni Affiliate recently hosted a second webinar in its series, Transform the Table - UToledo Diversity in Action.

Alumni panelists shared their experiences with diversity in action at UToledo, as well as how they are transforming the table in their current roles:

May 25, 2021: UToledo hosts Fifth COVID-19 Virtual Town Hall

The University of Toledo hosted public health officials from across northwest Ohio and southeast Michigan for a virtual town hall discussion on the COVID-19 pandemic.

In addition to answering questions from the audience, the expert panel provided the latest information about COVID-19, spoke about the local pandemic response and discussed vaccination for children.

Feb. 17, 2021: Transform the Table – UToledo Diversity in Action

The University of Toledo College of Medicine and Life Sciences Alumni Affiliate hosted a webinar, Transform the Table - UToledo Diversity in Action, on Wednesday, Feb. 17.

Dr. Kimberly Jenkins, associate professor in the Department of Anesthesiology and associate dean for diversity, equity and inclusion in the College of Medicine and Life Sciences, along with Dr. Obi Ekwenna, FACS, transplant surgeon, assistant professor in the Department of Urology and assistant dean for student affairs in the College of Medicine and Life Sciences discussed strategic University diversity initiatives and their roles within the college at UToledo. 

Current UToledo students joined us to share their experiences with diversity in action at the University and within the College of Medicine and Life Sciences, as well as how they are transforming the table.

Sept. 22, 2020: UToledo Autism Spectrum Disorders research and treatment

Learn about advancements in Autism Spectrum Disorders research and treatment at The University of Toledo from Assistant Professor of Psychiatry, Dr. Elissar Andari.

Dean Cooper shared an update on the College of Medicine and Life Sciences followed by Dr. Andari’s presentation on Autism Spectrum Disorders.

During the presentation, Dr. Andari:

  • Provided an overview of the most recent research discoveries on autism: prevalence, biology and current treatment
  • Presented research on epigenetic biomarkers for autism: focus on the oxytocin receptor gene and social functioning
  • Shared research on the effects of oxytocin, a non-steroid hormone, on brain function and social behavior within autism
  • Updated attendees on the creation of the Autism Center and Research Development Society which brings researchers and clinicians together to share their innovative and new findings.

Aug. 5, 2020: UToledo Water Quality Research

Learn about the discoveries and advancements in water quality research at The University of Toledo as it relates to algal blooms and red tide from Dr. Steven Haller, Assistant Professor of Medicine, and Dr. David Kennedy, Associate Professor of Medicine both from the Division of Cardiovascular Medicine.

The University of Toledo has created the Center for Environmental Toxicology and Health given our community’s ties to and dependence on the Great Lakes and surrounding tributaries as a source of clean water for drinking, recreation, fishing and agriculture. Our Center places a special emphasis on discovering new diagnostic, preventative and therapeutic strategies targeting cellular damage caused by environmental stressors that impair our land-water-food nexus.

Hear Dean Cooper share an update on the College of Medicine and Life Sciences followed by an enlightening presentation regarding our water quality.
