LIFEGUARD INSTRUCTOR

Lifeguard Instructor Courses
The Lifeguarding Instructor (LGI) course trains instructor candidates to teach American Red Cross student-level courses including Lifeguarding, Waterpark Skills, and CPR/AED for Professional Rescuers and Health Care Providers.
Instructor candidates who hold a current student-level Waterfront Skills certificate will also be able to teach the Waterfront Skills course. This instructor course does not teach student-level lifeguarding skills and knowledge. Participants must come to class already knowing student-level lifeguarding content.

Prerequisites
  • Instructor candidates must be at least 17 years of age by the course end date
  • Candidates must show American Red Cross lifeguarding certification and professional-rescuer CPR/AED certification, both of which must be current (not expired) as of the first day of the instructor class.
  • Some equivalent lifeguarding certifications from other training organizations are also acceptable; check with the Office of Recreational Services for details.

Candidates must complete online pre-course homework (see below) prior to the first day the class meets. Candidates must pass pre-course testing on skills and knowledge at the beginning of the instructor course.

Pre-course Homework (Online)
The Lifeguarding Instructor course includes online pre-course homework. In general, you should plan on registering at least a week in advance in order to allow time for this homework to be made available to you and for you to complete it prior to the first day the class meets.

All class materials and supplies will be provided.
