Student-Athlete Support Services (SASS)

Academic Advising

Tutor with student

Student-athletes will be assigned two academic coordinators (major adviser and SASS academic athletic coordinator) during their time at UT. Both advisors work together to assist the student-athlete with creating balanced course schedules that meet degree requirements and will not interfere with athletic commitments.

SASS academic coordinators maintain files on all student-athletes to monitor academic performance, NCAA eligibility and progress towards graduation. All tracking information (academic grade reports, tutorial feedback, faculty academic progress reports, eligibility data and college advising documentation) is kept on file and communicated to coaches regularly.

Academic Progress

The Student-Athlete Support Services (SASS) monitors student- athletes' academic progress throughout the semester by varies checks such as Early Alerts, Academic Progress Reports, Blackboard and communication with faculty and staff.

Academic Progress Reports are mailed to faculty/staff of all student-athletes twice a semester (prior to midterm exams and prior to the last day to withdrawal) for feedback on their current status in class that provides information from instructors regarding class attendance, class participation, current grades, assignments, concerns and suggestions to improve. Progress Reports are a helpful tool for student-athletes to assess their progress in each course and to make improvements where necessary. Such feedback also encourages student-athletes to meet with instructors during office hours for additional help. Information from Progress Reports will be distributed to head coaches of each sports program.
