Undergraduate International Tuition and Scholarships

How much does UToledo cost?

We know an American college education is a big investment. But we believe a University of Toledo education is worth it.

Most new students don’t pay full price. More than 90% of UToledo international undergraduates receive scholarships or special tuition rates.

Our tuition guarantee helps you budget. The tuition you pay your first year as an undergrad will be the same tuition you pay in Year 4. Your on-campus housing and meal plan rates won't change from Year 1 to Year 4, either.

We believe in transparency. Listed below is the average amount full-time, international undergraduate students pay per year. Your cost to attend UToledo will vary by college, program and other options.

Can I lower the cost with scholarships?

Absolutely.

The easiest way to get undergraduate scholarships is to get good grades.

International Scholar Tuition Rate

Are you a first-time, international freshman with a GPA of 3.5 or higher? You qualify for in-state tuition, with an additional fee of $250 a semester. (In-state tuition and fees averaged $11,885 for the 2022-23 academic year.) You won't have to pay the surcharge that most students who live outside of Ohio are charged. That saves you about $8,860 a year!

Note: International transfer students do not qualify for this special, in-state tuition rate. Students receiving the International Scholar Tuition Rate do not qualify for International Rocket Award.

International Rocket Award

The International Rocket Award is a merit scholarship based on your GPA. No other application necessary! If you qualify, you get the scholarship when you are admitted to UToledo.

New international freshmen or transfer students with cumulative higher education GPA of 3.0-3.49 at time of admission — $7,500 per year

New international transfer students with a cumulative higher education GPA of 3.5 or higher at time of admission —$8,500 per year

Learn more about the International Rocket Award.

Students who apply directly to the American Language Institute (ALI) at The University of Toledo and students who meet UToledo academic requirements but are referred to the ALI may be eligible for this assistance upon the successful completion of the ALI program. This scholarship will not be applied to any fees associated with the ALI.

Sister Cities special tuition rate

If you are from one of Toledo’s Sister Cities, you qualify for a special, lower tuition rate. You will pay the same tuition that Ohio residents pay (about $11,885 for tuition and fees for the 2022-23 academic year) plus a small fee of $100 per semester.

The Sister Cities Tuition Rate is guaranteed to new undergraduate students whose permanent address is within one of the Toledo Sister Cities/Regions at the time of application.

Students from Toledo's Sister Cities do not qualify for the International Rocket Award.
