Annmarie Kwiatkowski Heldt Scholarship

This scholarship is awarded to current teachers in the Toledo Public Schools who are pursuing a Master's Degree in Language Arts. First Preference will be given to those studying the German Language but consideration will be given to current teachers studying other foreign languages. VIEW  ELIGIBILITY REQUIREMENTS  APPLY HERE

middle east studies and/or Arabic minor scholarship fund

This scholarship benefits new or continuing students who are pursuing a major in Middle East Studies and/or minor in Arabic with a 3.0 GPA.

Marianne Bigney Scholarship award in German Studies

This scholarship honors late UToledo Professor Marianne Bigney.  It supports:

  • Incoming first-year students who wish to continue their study of German language, culture, civilization and literature
  • UToledo undergraduates continuing a course of study in German language, culture, civilization and literature

Herbert B. Schering Exchange Program and Award in German Studies

This fund honors the late Professor Herbert B. Schering, who served The University of Toledo for 39 years.  The scholarships support UToledo undergraduates and graduate students, including those who wish to study or do research or internships abroad.

This scholarship benefits new or continuing students majoring in the German language with a GPA of 3.0 or higher.

joseph y. hara endowed fund for japanese studies

This scholarship benefits students at the University of Toledo studying the Japanese language. Other criteria for the use of this fund are as follows:

  • Minimum GPA of 3.0 on a 4.0 grading scale
  • Good academic standing
  • Renewable as long as recipient still meets criteria
  • Scholarship(s) to be awarded by faculty for Japanese language study in the Department of World Languages and Cultures. If there are no qualifying students minoring in Japanese, the scholarship shall be awarded to a qualifying Asian Studies major meeting the same academic requirements.

This scholarship benefits new or continuing students majoring in the Spanish language with a GPA of 3.0 or higher.

Daniel E. quilter ESTO scholarship for study abroad in spain

This scholarship is awarded to students majoring or minoring in Spanish who have applied for the ESTO program in Toledo, Spain.

RUSSELL G.C. BROWN - ILEANA MURRAY SCHOLARSHIP FUND (ESTO STUDENTS)

The Association of Two Toledos, Russell G.C. Brown - Ileana Murray Scholarship for Study in Toledo, Spain fund is specific to students participating in the ETSO program. One or two students and/or teachers enrolled in this summer program of study in Toledo, Spain are awarded up to $1,000.

Graduate Assistantships

We offer graduate programs leading to a Master of Arts in French, German and Spanish. For these programs, the College of Graduate Studies offers partial tuition waivers. 

We accept applications from qualified undergraduate students for graduate assistantships in French, German and Spanish.

Typically, graduate assistants teach one lower-level language course per quarter under faculty supervision and may be provided a stipend and tuition assistance.
