Chemical Engineering

Chair's Welcome

Yakov LapitskyWelcome to the Department of Chemical Engineering at the University of Toledo!

We believe our program offers opportunities that rival the best in the country. With state-of-the-art teaching and research facilities, our Department emphasizes a strong foundation in chemical engineering fundamentals and creative problem-solving. Our award-winning faculty lead the University's efforts in materials and sustainability research, offering rewarding opportunities for research at the graduate and undergraduate levels. Through the College's integrated co-op program, students gain a full year of real-world work experience before graduation. This professional experience allows students to apply their engineering skills, offsets college costs, and accelerates early career growth.

We also pride ourselves on the student-centered atmosphere of our Department. Faculty know their students by name and are deeply engaged in their success. Our energetic Freshman Interest Group (FIG) program—in which upperclassmen mentor groups of first-year students—eases the transition from high school to college, while other Department student organizations provide rich opportunities for professional growth outside the classroom. Together, these attributes create a supportive environment that fosters academic and professional success.

We hope you will visit us and discover what makes the Department of Chemical Engineering at UToledo an exceptional place to learn and work. If you have any questions, please feel free to contact me.
