Combined Bachelor’s to Master’s Program FAQ

How do I apply for a combined degree program?

  • Step 1: Talk with your advisor. Reach out to your undergraduate advisor and the graduate program director of your intended program.
  • Step 2: Submit an application. Apply to your program at applygrad.utoledo.edu/graduate/apply and select the ‘Pipeline application’. Your application fee will be waived. In addition, your UToledo transcript will automatically be uploaded to your graduate application. However, if you have transcripts from other institutions, we may request you obtain those from those institutions.
  • Step 3: Submit official documents. Depending on the program you apply for, you may be asked to provide additional documents like a statement of purpose or letter of recommendation. Follow along your application at utoledo.edu/status.

When should I apply?

You can apply after you have completed 60 credit hours of your undergraduate degree (estimated to be the end of your sophomore year). You can start taking graduate courses after completing 75 undergraduate credit hours (estimated mid-way through your junior year). Applying after 60 credit hours may result in less graduate credits obtained while pursuing your undergraduate degree.

Which credits can count toward both my undergraduate and graduate degrees?

Up to 9 credits can be applied to both degrees. Applying later than suggested may result in less graduate hours counting towards your undergraduate degree.

Which tuition do I pay: graduate or undergraduate?

You will pay for undergraduate tuition until you complete your undergraduate degree. Once you complete your undergraduate degree, you will begin paying graduate tuition.

If I received merit, Rocket Nation or donor scholarships during my undergraduate degree, would those also apply to the graduate courses being taken as an undergraduate student?

Provided the student maintains the eligibility criteria outlined in the scholarship Terms and Conditions, the institutional scholarships noted above apply to graduate courses when an undergraduate student enrolls in a pipeline program. See the pipeline program financial aid agreement for additional information.

I’m an out-of-state undergraduate student who was eligible for in-state tuition. Would I still receive in-state tuition for my graduate courses?

Provided the student maintains the eligibility criteria outlined in the scholarship Terms and Conditions, an institutional scholarship that offsets all or a portion of the out-of-state surcharge applies to graduate courses when an undergraduate student enrolls in a pipeline program. See the pipeline program financial aid agreement for additional information.

Do I get to participate in commencement for undergraduate students before completing my graduate degree?
