The Canaday Center is located on the fifth floor of the William S. Carlson Library, CL 5061.

Located in the middle of the University of Toledo’s main campus, recommended parking for Carlson Library includes lots 10 and 13 and require the purchase of a guest pass. Lot 11, near Snyder Memorial, offers metered, pay and display parking. All three lots include accessible parking spaces. The campus map will orient you to the location of the recommended lots.

To purchase an hourly, daily, or monthly guest pass, visit ParkUToledo for visitor parking.

Access to Canaday Center collections is provided by appointment only. Appointments must be scheduled at least one (1) business day in advance. Appointment times are available on Monday - Friday, between 8:30 AM and 4:00 PM. For assistance, please contact the Canaday Center via email at canadaycenter@utoledo.edu or telephone at (419) 530-4480. You can also schedule an appointment via our Appointment Request Form.

NOTE: The Canaday Center closes for lunch 12 PM – 1 PM. Patrons already in the Reading Room may continue their work during this time, but no appointments are accepted for this hour.

The Canaday Center houses materials that are rare, unique, and serve specific functions that require long-term preservation. As a result, they do not circulate and must be viewed on site in the Reading Room.

When planning your visit to the Canaday Center Reading Room, please follow these steps:

    1. Prior to your appointment, review our finding aids (visit Discover Our Collections to learn how to access our finding aids) and then call or email the Canaday Center, or complete an Appointment Request Form, to request materials. Note that not everything within in our holding is available for research. Please see our Access Policy Statement for more information.
    2. Make an appointment to visit the Canaday Center. Appointments are required one (1) business day in advance and are accepted Monday-Friday, 8:30 AM-4:00 PM. In the event that a collection is stored off-site, staff will advise you of the additional time needed to retrieve the requested materials, but it will be no less than three (3) business days.
    3. Complete the registration form. This can be done via an online form or in person on the date of your appointment.
