Accessibility Services for Patrons with Disabilities

The Library staff want to ensure that all patrons can use the library services and collections. Please let us know if you encounter any barriers to access. While the libraries are committed to providing equal access, we cannot provide personal reading, copying, typing, or note-taking services. If you are a UT student who requires personalized assistance, we encourage you to contact the Office Of Accessibility and Disability Resources at 419.530.4981 or 419.530.2612 for TDD.

ADAPTIVE EQUIPMENT

At Carlson Library, computer workstations located in the Information Commons and in the Canaday Center are customized to assist those with visual and mobility impairments or learning disabilities. Each accessibility workstation is equipped with

  • Adjustable height desk with swing-arm monitor

Please log in to your UTAD (university) account to enjoy maximum use of these workstations. The library staff can provide basic assistance, but cannot provide technical assistance or software instruction. Please see the Office Of Accessibility and Disability Resources if you need training on this software.

A generic login is used for this workstation. The CLRC staff can provide basic assistance, but cannot provide technical assistance or software instruction. Please see the Office Of Accessibility and Disability Resources if you need training on this software.

Magnifying lens sheets for print material are available at the Mulford Library Service Desk.

PROXY BORROWING

Patrons with disabilities can identify a proxy borrower who can check out items for them at the library. Your proxy will need to present both your UT ID and his or her ID (such as a drivers license) to verify that he or she they can take out books under your name. This is done as a security precaution. To designate a proxy borrower, print out and complete the Request for Proxy Borrowing Privilege form and bring it to the circulation desk or send it to the Circulation Department (Mailstop #509).

MATERIAL RETRIEVAL

We are happy to retrieve books and other material from our shelves for users who unable to reach materials by themselves. Whenever possible we retrieve materials immediately, but at times we may need one business day (excluding weekends and holidays) to provide this service. Materials not retrieved immediately will be placed on hold for 10 days at the Circulation Desk. Patrons should complete a Material Retrieval Request Form at the Reference Desk or e-mail a list that includes the Author, Title, and Call # for each book to the Reference Department, AskIt@utnet.utoledo.edu. Keep in mind that this service is only for books and materials at University of Toledo Libraries, other items may be obtained through OhioLINK borrowing or our Interlibrary Loan service.

SCANNING / PHOTOCOPYING OF PERIODICAL ARTICLES

For articles in our print journal collection, please use ILLiad, our interlibrary loan and document delivery service. You will need to create a free account, if you do not already have one. After you have placed a request, staff will retrieve the material, scan your article and post it to your ILLiad account. For more information on the basics of ILLiad, please consult our ILLiad LibGuide. Please note that this service is only available for current affiliated University of Toledo patrons.
