VISA Status

We do not accept any type of visa, including those sponsored by the ECFMG, H-1B, J-1, or EAD.

Non-Discrimation

We do not discriminate with regard to gender, race, age, religion, color, or sexual orientation.

International Applicants

We welcome international medical graduates to apply to our family medicine residency. We require a valid ECFMG certificate before we submit our Match list. Preference is given to international graduates who have meaningful United States (U.S.) or Canadian clinical training that involves patient decision-making. U.S. experience in an observership role is more desirable than no U.S. experience at all. We do not offer observerships or externships. We do not accept any visas, including those sponsored by the ECFMG, H-1B, J-1, or EAD.

Selection Criteria

Only ERAS applications will be accepted.

Preference is given to applicants who:

  1. have graduated from medical school within the last three (3) years;
  2. on their first attempt scored at least 220 on Step 1 and Step 2; or who, on their first attempt have a Comlex score of at least a 500 on Level 1 and Level 2. These scores must be provided before you will be considered for an interview.
  3. grew up or went to undergraduate or medical school in or around Ohio.
  4. have a demonstrated interest in Family Medicine.

Please note that The University of Toledo does not offer any type of Observership or Shadowing experiences.

Interview Selections

Interviews are by invitation only and are held from October thru mid-January.

As such, please do not call the office or email the coordinator to find out the status of your application.

Of note, no one will be interviewed who does not have a reported USMLE Step 2 or COMLEX Level 2 score.

If an applicant is selected for an interview, they will receive an invitation thru Thalamus (a residency interview scheduling program).

ERAS Signaling

We welcome, but do not require signaling, and we do not use signaling as a criteria for evaluating applicants.
