Listed below are some of the most commonly asked questions and topics regarding The University of Toledo Family Medicine Residency Program.
APPLICATION REQUIREMENTS
- Completed ERAS application
- Three letters of reference from U.S. Physicians (dated within the past 12 months)
- Personal statement
- Dean’s letter or MSPE (Medical Student Performance Evaluation)
- Valid ECFMG certificate (if applicable)
- Medical School transcripts
- Official USMLE or COMLEX transcripts
SELECTION CRITERIA
Only ERAS applications will be accepted. Preference is given to candidates who have graduated from medical school in the last three years and who have, on their first attempt, scored at least 220 on Step 1 and Step 2 CK and passed Step 2 CS; or who, on their first attempt scored at least a 500 on Level 1 and Level 2CE and passed Level 2 PE. These scores must be provided before the applicant will be considered for an interview. Candidates who grew up or went to undergraduate or medical school in or around Ohio are viewed favorably.
We do not sponsor any type of visa.
DO WE ACCEPT D.O. APPLICANTS?
Yes, we do accept D.O. applicants. In fact, our program was recently given osteopathic recognition by the ACGME.
INTERVIEWS
Interviews are by invitation only and are held on Tuesdays from November thru mid-February.If an applicant is selected for an interview, they will receive an email from the program coordinator to schedule a date.
DEADLINE FOR APPLICATIONS
Completed applications must be received in ERAS no later than November 1st of the current year.
IN-HOUSE CALL / Night Float
PGY-1 residents predominantly cover the weekend calls (5:30 p.m. Friday to 7 a.m. Saturday; 7 p.m. Saturday to 7 a.m. Sunday; and 7 a.m. Sunday to 7 p.m. Sunday).
PGY-2 and PGY-3 residents each do two one-half months of night float. Night float is from 7 p.m. to 7 a.m. Sunday thru Thursday. On Friday morning, the resident will have their continuity clinic. Occasionally, PGY-2 and PGY-3 residents are assigned weekend call when there are not enough PGY-1 residents to cover the entire weekend.
Meal tickets that can be redeemed in the hospital cafeteria are provided to residents when they are on-call.
PROTECTED TIME
Wednesday afternoons from 12:00-5:00 p.m. is protected time. Didactics are held from 12:30-3:00 p.m. From 3:00-5:00 p.m., the residents can be scheduled for video reviews, evaluations, procedures, Journal Club, or have time to work on their scholarly/QI projects.

BOARD SCORES
Historically, our program has had nearly a 100% passing score on the first attempt.
