Dr. Ali T. Nawras, MD, FACP, FACG, FASGE

Dr. Ali Nawras

Dr. Nawras joined with The University of Toledo in January 2010 and serves as Professor of Medicine, Director of Endoscopy, and Chief of the Gastroenterology and Hepatology Division.  He previously served as the Program Director for the Gastroenterology Fellowship at the University of Toledo, Director of Advanced Endoscopy Fellowship Program at Henry Ford Health System in Detroit, Michigan, and Associate Professor of Medicine and Director of Advanced Endoscopy at Albany Medical College in Albany, New York.

Dr. Nawras earned his medical degree from Damascus University, School of Medicine, Damascus, Syria in 1988 and has subsequently performed his residency at the Hahnemann University & Medical College of Pennsylvania, Easton Hospital in Easton Pennsylvania. He completed a gastroenterology fellowship at Albany Medical College, Albany, New York. He then went on to complete his Advance Interventional Endoscopy training at St. Luke's Medical Center in Milwaukie, WI.  He is board certified in Internal Medicine and Gastroenterology, and licensed in the state of Ohio.               

Dr. Nawras is a member of the Alpha Omega Alpha Honor Society-Theta of New York, a fellow of the American College of Gastroenterology, fellow of the American College of Physicians, and a fellow of the American Society of Gastrointestinal Endoscopy.              

Not only is Dr. Nawras a well respected healthcare provider, mentor, and professor, he is also well decorated with recent honors including "Best Teacher of the Year in Dept. of Medicine, 2010-2011", "College of Medicine and Life Sciences Dean's Award for Teaching Excellence in the Clinical Science Category" for 2014, "Best Doctors in America" for years 2010-2011 and 2011-2012, and also "Best Toledo Gastroenterologist" for the years 2011-2012 2014-2015.
