GENERAL OVERVIEW:

The first year of training (PGY 1) is a general internship consisting of:

  • Six months of Orthopaedic Surgery
  • One month of structured education in each of the following specialty areas: Radiology, Rheumatology, and Surgical Intensive Care
  • One month of structured education in each of the following surgical areas: Neurosurgery, Vascular, and General Surgery

PGY 2 year includes a three-month rotation at the Shriners Hospital in Lexington, KY; one of the country's leading centers for pediatric orthopaedics.

PGY 3 year includes a three-month night float/ research rotation.

The remainder of PGY 2 - PGY 5 are spent on various orthopaedic services such as hand, sports, spine, total joints, trauma, oncology, foot & ankle, etc. These rotations are divided among the three affiliated hospitals in Toledo: University of Toledo Medical Center (UTMC), The Toledo Hospital (TTH), and Wildwood Orthopaedic and Spine Hospital.
