Simple Syllabus - Fall 2026 Implementation
The University of Toledo has adopted Simple Syllabus, a new syllabus management platform that will be used across the institution. In response to the Advance Ohio Higher Education Act regarding syllabus availability, the university will be using Simple Syllabus as the platform through which undergraduate course syllabi will be managed and made available. By the first day of the Fall 2026 term, all undergraduate courses will be required to have a syllabus published through Simple Syllabus.
Simple Syllabus is not active for Summer 2026 courses. Those undergraduate courses, as well as graduate courses, should continue to follow the current syllabus templates and guidelines.
Simple Syllabus automatically appears within Blackboard Ultra course shells, where instructors are able to create, edit, and publish their course syllabus using the university’s approved template. Syllabi can also be viewed, downloaded, and printed from this location by both the instructor and students enrolled in the class.
Simple Syllabus Training
To become familiar with the system, please consider viewing this training video that provides a brief overview of the platform and demonstrates how to build and manage a syllabus in Simple Syllabus.

Student Learning Outcomes
Missing student learning outcomes (SLOs) in Simple Syllabus
If your course does not currently display SLOs, please manually include them in the
“Course Expectations” section for now.
Why are SLOs missing?
In most cases, missing SLOs indicate that they have not yet been entered into the
CIM system. We recommend completing that process as soon as possible.
Older SLOs already on your syllabus
If you have entered new SLOs into CIM but they have not yet fully cleared Faculty
Senate’s shared governance process, your previous SLOs may still appear as the outcomes
of record. Please continue to add those onto your syllabus while the updated outcomes
are moving through the Faculty Senate approval process.
Future automatic updates
Once student learning outcomes are fully approved and processed in the CIM system,
they will populate automatically in your syllabus.

These resources have been designed to assist UToledo faculty with the development of a contract or syllabus for thesis/dissertation and independent study, where students may earn academic credit for work that does not occur in a regular course format. All three documents are not required, but it is expected that the instructor provide a written document that clearly articulates the expectations for the award of academic credit. This includes the articulation of student learning outcomes and requirements/expectations.
