Assessment Overview

Welcome to the University of Toledo University Assessment Committee!

The University Assessment Committee is committed to helping faculty and staff members evaluate how well our students meet established learning outcomes in academic programs, co-curricular experiences, and the core curriculum. The UAC’s assessment process is designed to review and improve program quality, leading to enhanced student learning, in support of the university’s ongoing commitment to excellence.

Members of the UAC, liaisons representing the colleges and service units that offer co-curricular learning, meet monthly to discuss assessment initiatives throughout campus. In the fall, they work with their respective colleagues to facilitate the annual reporting process within their individual colleges and service units. In the spring, the group analyzes the data for themes from across the community and informs the Provost of their findings. In addition, the committee hosts the institution’s annual Assessment Day, a professional development opportunity for faculty and staff each spring. The committee honors individual academic and service units by recognizing the recipients of the Excellence in Assessment Awards at this annual event.

The committee’s goals for 2020-2021 are:

  1. Support the curriculum mapping initiative that began in January 2020. Liaisons will provide feedback to the curricular and co-curricular programs that submit their curriculum map-a diagram outlining the alignment of the program’s learning outcomes with individual courses and/or co-curricular experiences.
  2. Pilot the revised assessment plan and report templates in the online Assessment Tracking Tool. The committee developed new templates to help streamline the data collected from individual programs based on feedback from faculty and staff. The target date to share the new templates with the broader campus is fall 2021.
