International Freshman Admission Requirements
Grade point average (GPA) is calculated based on cumulative high school grades.
If you are admitted to the University but do not meet requirements for your chosen degree program, you will be admitted into UToledo's Exploratory Studies program in University College.

pre-health and pre-law tracks
Pre-med, pre-law, pre-dental and pre-vet are NOT majors at UToledo. They are pathways, or road maps, to a career in medicine, law or dentistry.
If you want to enter one of those pathways when you apply to UToledo, you will need to:
- Choose a major.
- Meet your program's admission requirements.
- Select pre-medicine, pre-law, pre-dental or pre-veterinarian as an optional concentration on the UToledo application.
College of Engineering
Engineering Science majors
- Minimum GPA: 3.0
- Minimum test scores: 22 ACT or 550 SAT math subscore or a 76 ALEKS score*
- Required High School Coursework: 4 years of high school chemistry and math (fourth-year emphasis on trigonometry or pre-calculus). High school physics is strongly recommended
Engineering Technology majors
- Minimum GPA: 2.5
- Minimum test scores: 20 ACT or 510 SAT math subscore or 61 ALEKS score*
*Students who do not have an ACT or SAT score can take UToledo's math placement test (ALEKS) for a fee of $20 USD. Students must score at least 61 points for Engineering Technology programs or at least 76 for Engineering Science programs.

College of Health and Human Services
For students majoring in Exercise Science
- Minimum GPA: 3.0
- Required High School Coursework: High school biology and chemistry with a grade of C or better
For students majoring in Criminal Justice, Paralegal Studies and Social Work
- Minimum GPA: 2.5
For students in all other majors
- Minimum GPA: 2.7
College of Natural Sciences and Mathematics
Bachelor of Science in Biology
- Minimum GPA: 2.75
For students in all other majors
- Minimum GPA: 2.5
College of Nursing
- Minimum GPA: 2.75
- You are not guaranteed a spot in the nursing curriculum and must enter a competitive admission process for the professional division after taking two years of pre-nursing courses.
Direct Admission
- To qualify for direct admission, you must have a minimum 3.7 GPA and a 24 ACT or 1160 SAT score.
- If you qualify for direct admission, you are guaranteed a seat in the professional division of the program as long as you maintain a 3.5 UToledo GPA.
College of Pharmacy and Pharmaceutical Sciences
- Minimum GPA: 2.5
Direct Admission to the Doctor of Pharmacy (Pharm.D.) program
- To qualify for direct admission, you must have a minimum 3.75 GPA and 29 ACT or 1300 SAT score. You must apply to UToledo and submit all required application materials by December 1 and additional materials as requested. You will be notified in mid-March if you have been directly admitted to the Pharm.D. program.
If you qualify for direct admission, you are guaranteed a seat in the professional division of the program as long as you maintain a 3.0 UToledo GPA. Those who don't qualify for direct admission will need to apply to the professional division in their second year as a pre-pharmacy student.

Bachelor's degree programs
- Minimum GPA: 2.8
Associate's degree in Applied Organizational Technology
- Minimum GPA: 2.0
If you don't meet the GPA requirement for the bachelor's degree, you will be admitted into an associate's degree program. When you earn a 2.4 UToledo GPA, you may transfer into the business program of your choice.
Judith Herb College of Education
- Minimum GPA: 2.7
Appeal Process
If you do not meet one or more of the requirements of the academic program of your choice but feel that you are ready for your studies at The University of Toledo, you may appeal. Review our admissions Appeal Process.
Suspension/Dismissals From Other Schools
If you have been suspended or dismissed from another institution, you will be required to provide additional documentation. UToledo will honor an academic suspension from another school up to one year. You will not be able to attend classes at UToledo until that year of academic suspension has been completed. Students suspended or dismissed for disciplinary reasons will be reviewed on a case-by-case basis.
