Bachelor of Arts in Film

As a student in the UT Department of Theatre and Film you will also have many opportunities to hone your craft outside the classroom. Through internships, assistantships, faculty mentorships, collaborations with other programs, competitions, film festivals, and opportunities to study abroad, Film/Video students are offered a rich array of experience. Students will also have the opportunity to attend conferences and workshops, as well as benefit from guest artist presentations and similar events.

Film Program Student Learning Objectives

  • Students will identify, evaluate, and critique the aesthetic, thematic, ideological, and philosophical elements of various film and media texts.
  • Students will synthesize theoretical writings on film and media with their own critical perspective.
  • Through written presentation, students will construct and apply critical perspectives regarding the aesthetics and theories of film and media.
  • Students will demonstrate proficiencies in the fundamentals of filmmaking.
  • Students will examine a variety of aesthetic expressions of the moving image to expand their social and cultural awareness.
  • Students will construct a variety of aesthetic expressions with the moving image to develop artistic and professional methods.
