In most cases, state licensure as a Professional Engineer (PE) is not required to work in the field of engineering.  However, some engineering employment opportunities may require a PE license.  To sit for the PE licensure exam, a candidate must pass the Fundamentals of Engineering (FE) exam and then work for four to eight years post-graduation under the supervision of a licensed engineer.
