CARES I Funding - NOW CLOSED
UToledo received $13.5 million in funds from the federal CARES Act to help mitigate financial impacts from the COVID-19 pandemic. Of this total, $6.7 million was designated for emergency grants to students and has been used to immediately assist current students experiencing financial hardships caused by the pandemic.
On April 14, 2020, The University of Toledo signed and returned to the U.S. Department of Education the Certification and Agreement with the assurance that the institution has used, or intends to use, no less than 50% of the funds received under Section 18004(a)(1) of the Coronavirus Aid, Relief and Economic Security (CARES) Act to provide Emergency Financial Aid Grants to students.
Students enrolled for spring 2020 who received a federal Pell Grant have received a one-time grant of $1,000. No application was required. Students not eligible for the automatic one-time grant needed to use the existing Rocket Aid application to request CARES I funds. To be eligible to receive CARES I funding, a student needed to be eligible to receive federal aid by having a valid Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA) or equivalent documentation on file. The Office of Student Financial Aid determined eligibility based on guidelines from the U.S. Department of Education. All CARES I funding has been exhausted.
