Graduate Application Process

Get ready to apply!

The Graduate Admissions team and your graduate academic program faculty look forward to working with you throughout the admission process.

Here’s what you need to do.

1. Review Admission Requirements

Before applying, review your admission requirements. Requirements vary by academic college and individual program.

Admission requirements

2. Complete the Application

To begin your application, visit the Applying for Graduate Admission page and choose the option that applies to you.

Complete the application fully. You can continue to make changes to your application until it has been submitted. Once you submit your application, you can no longer make changes and you will be prompted to pay the application fee. After your application has been submitted and paid, you can visit your Application Status Page to view the status of your application and instructions for submitting any required documents. Your application is not considered complete until the fee has been paid and all admission requirements have been met.

Please Note:

Select programs require a National Centralized Application (CAS) and are listed on the application page. If your program is listed, complete the CAS application using the link listed with your program. Do not complete The University of Toledo application.

3. Submit Transcripts

Current UToledo students do not need to order their UToledo transcripts (excluding law, medical school, or CAS applications). The University of Toledo must be listed in the academic history section of your application, and then the transcripts will be retrieved on your behalf by the Graduate Admissions team.

Transcripts are required from all previous higher education institutions. Contact all previous institutions and request that your official transcripts are sent to The University of Toledo Office of Graduate Admission. Transcripts are only considered official if they are sent directly from the issuing institution to The University of Toledo. Electronic delivery is preferred, but physical documents can be mailed in an original sealed envelope with the school registrar’s stamp intact. Physical documents can be mailed to:

The University of Toledo
College of Graduate Studies
2801 W. Bancroft, MS 933
Toledo, OH 43606

Transcripts should indicate the degree earned, date of conferral, and a key to the grading system used. All transcripts should be submitted in their original language.

A foreign credential evaluation is required for all applicants who have completed coursework or degrees at non-US institutions.

4. Submit Required Supporting Materials

Visit your Application Status Page to view outstanding items required to complete your application. Some items may be uploaded directly via the Status Page, while others must be sent externally. Your application cannot be forwarded to the academic department for a final decision until all required supporting documentation has been received.

Applicants whose native language is not English and who received their undergraduate degrees from non-English speaking institutions must demonstrate a minimum level of English proficiency to be considered for admission into a UToledo graduate program. Please review Proof of English Language Proficiency for Graduate Students for more information.

5. Monitor Your Application Status

Once your application is complete, it will be reviewed by Office of Graduate Admission staff and then sent to the academic department for a decision. To check the status of your application, log in using the corresponding link below:

When an admission decision is made, you will receive an email notification to view the decision letter on your application status page.

Decisions for most programs are made on a rolling basis. Some programs have a limited number of seats available and may make admission decisions on a specific date. Check with your program for details.

6. Confirm Your Enrollment

To confirm your enrollment, you will need to complete the “Intent to Enroll” form found on your application status page.
