Etd Process Overview
Wondering what the path to the successful completion of your thesis or dissertation looks like? We're sharing the process in three simple steps below!
1
Format Review
Schedule Final Defense
Upload ETD to OhioLINK
By the posted format review deadline, email your thesis or dissertation as a PDF or Word file to ETDSvcs@utoledo.edu. The subject line should be: Last Name, First Name; Format Review
Be sure to use your Rockets email and include your Rocket ID number! You'll receive a response with instructions on revising formatting or confirmation you are good to go!
Schedule your final defense according to your academic department's protocol (Try to schedule as early in the semester as possible to allow time for needed revisions!).
Submit the Defense Acceptance and Intellectual Protection form as soon as you set the date and bring your Approval of Thesis or Approval of Dissertation form with you to your defense.
Complete the OhioLINK ETD Center submission process and upload your final document as an accessible PDF file, plus any supplementary files to OhioLINK by the posted deadline for the semester in which you are graduating.
We're notified when you upload with a timestamped email from OhioLINK.
All submissions are reviewed and either returned for correction, or released publicly [with or without embargo] within 90 days of graduation.

Frequently Asked Questions
Are Format Reviews Required?
No, but they are strongly encouraged. Format reviews save you time as you make edits to upload to OhioLINK.
What happens During a Format Review?
During a format review, we evaluate your thesis or dissertation according to our formatting checklist. We check for pagination, margins, required sections, and more—however, we don't check content. Then, we send you the results of our evaluation!
Why are Format Reviews so Important?
Submitting your thesis or dissertation for a format review is a great way to cut down time on determining where you'll need to make edits!
Does my Thesis or Dissertation need to be complete before Submitting for a Format Review?
Nope! Simply make sure all required sections are included (even if they're empty) and that will work for us.
