Candidate Checklist

BY FRIDAY, March 15

By Monday, April 1

By Friday, April 12

  • Complete required OPD Graduate Survey. As part of your graduation processing requirements, you must complete the Office of Professional Development Graduate Exit Survey between Monday, March 25 and Friday, April 12, 2024. You can do the survey either in-person at OPD (Suite 1030) or via WebEx. Both Abby and Katie will have time blocks available to schedule on TLCN in the appointments tab. Reach out after you schedule a time if you would like the meeting to be virtual. The survey should take approximately 10-15 minutes to complete. Summer graduates will complete this requirement in July 2024. The survey will request information about your current and intended work status at the time of graduation and afterward. We require this information because the American Bar Association (ABA) requires that we collect all of our graduates' employment data: once at the time of graduation, and once 10 months out (about January 2025-March 2025). This information is compiled into anonymous files and reported to the ABA as part of our accreditation. To see how this information is reported, please visit our employment info webpage.

BY WEDNESDAY, APRIL 17

  • May 2024 Graduates Only - Complete exit counseling if you borrowed federal loans. Contact the Law Financial Aid Office at lawfinaid@utoledo.edu or Rocket Solution Central at 419.530.8700 if you have questions. August 2024 graduates will complete exit counseling after completing summer term.
  • Complete and report any remaining items for the Professional Development Program. Failure to complete the Professional Development Program can result in a hold being placed on your bar paperwork, transcript, and diploma. Reporting forms can be found in the Resource Library in TLCN. Email completed reporting forms to lawprofessionaldevelopment@utoledo.edu. Questions about PDP or reporting should be directed to Katie at kate.schuyler@utoledo.edu as soon as possible.

Review your individual information, if applicable

  • Contact Daniel Kall in the Law Registrar's Office at daniel.kall@utoledo.edu if you have questions regarding completion of graduation requirements, diploma name and mailing address, restricting directory information, or honors requirements.
  • Contact UToledo Treasurer's Office at treasurer@utoledo.edu if you have any financial obligations and fines that are still outstanding, as they must be cleared before graduation.
  • Contact UToledo IT Help Desk at ITHelpDesk@utoledo.edu if you need assistance with computer account information. All students have a OneDrive account through University IT Services. Any files stored on OneDrive will be deleted when you graduate and/or leave the University. If you have information stored on OneDrive and need to retain it for future use, it is your responsibility to contact the UToledo IT Help Desk if you have questions about how to retain the information or copy the files. If you have installed any Microsoft Office programs through UToledo's student license, it will become inactive upon graduation from the university. Graduates are able to continue to use their Rockets email after graduation. You will be responsible for continuing to change your password every six (6) months to keep an active account. If the account becomes inactive, the mailbox will be removed.

After Ceremony

Bar Application Reminders

  • Ohio Bar Applicants – Remember there are two applications candidates must submit for the Ohio bar. Applicants must first submit the Application to Register as a Candidate for Admission (students typically submit this during their second year of law school). In order to sit for an examination, all applicants must then submit an Application to Take the Bar Examination. The Application to Take the Bar Examination is due by April 1 (timely) or May 10 (late) for the July 2024 exam or November 1 (timely) or December 10 (late) for the February 2025 exam.
  • Michigan Bar Applicants – Remember to submit your bar application by March 1 (timely) or May 15 (late) for the July 2024 exam or November 1 (timely) or December 15 (late) for the February 2025 exam.
  • Other State Bar Applicants – Go to your state bar website to confirm you have met your bar application deadlines. The National Conference of Bar Examiners provides a helpful guide with links to the various state bar websites.

FAQ

When are diplomas mailed? What happens after Commencement?

After all grades are posted, the colleges begin the task of clearing students for graduation. This means the college reviews final grades to determine that all degree requirements have been met and notifies the UToledo Registrar's Office when the degree can be awarded. Once cleared by the college, the UToledo Registrar's Office posts the degree to the transcript and orders the diploma from Paradigm, Inc. The diploma is printed and then mailed by Paradigm, Inc. to the student at the address listed on the graduation application. Students will receive an email at their UToledo student email address once the diploma has been mailed. The process of clearing, posting and ordering diplomas continues for about 45 days past commencement. To verify that your degree has been awarded, check your unofficial transcript through the myUT Portal. Follow instructions for viewing unofficial transcripts online.

How can I update diploma mailing addresses?
Students can verify the diploma mailing address that is currently on file by viewing their application for graduation. To view your application, go to the Student tab in the myUT portal and select the Student Profile link found in the upper left-hand corner of the page. Select the 'Active' link in the Graduation Information section (middle of the page) to access your application. Here you will find all of the information you included when you submitted your application. If your diploma mailing address is different from what is displayed then complete the Diploma Address Change web form. Diploma address changes can be made up until the last day of the graduating term.
