Why Pathology at Toledo?

Resident in lab

Pathology sits at the crossroads of basic science and clinical medicine, connecting discoveries in the lab to diagnoses that guide patient care. Here, you’ll:

  • Gain experience with over 60,000 surgical specimens and 30,000 cytology specimens annually.
  • Rotate through state-of-the-art labs: hematopathology, flow cytometry, blood bank, microbiology and chemistry.
  • Work alongside expert faculty in surgical pathology, cytopathology, forensics, hematopathology, microbiology, blood bank, molecular pathology and electron microscopy.
  • Participate in research with support to present at national and regional meetings.

Our Partnership Advantage

Through our 50-year affiliation with ProMedica Toledo Hospital, the city’s largest health system, residents benefit from:

  • Increased surgical and cytology case volumes.
  • Exposure to a wide variety of rare and complex cases.
  • Access to one of the most reputable pathology training environments in the region.

Our Vision

We believe great pathologists are fluent in both the science of disease and the art of medicine. We seek curious, motivated learners who ask questions, embrace complexity, and thrive in a collegial environment.
