Pediatrics

Divisions: Pediatric Orthopedics/Surgery

The one-month pediatric ortho/surgery rotation provides residents an excellent opportunity to participate in the evaluation and management of a wide variety of common outpatient conditions to critically ill children with complicated surgical and orthopedic conditions. Residents are also exposed to the multidisciplinary management of children with congenital defects.

Residents learn to recognize conditions in both the inpatient and outpatient setting that require surgical intervention and actively participate on the trauma service. They will also learn to evaluate patients preoperatively and postoperatively and manage pain control. Pediatric residents function as a member of the surgical team and learn to effectively communicate with the family and referring physician.
