Graduate Student Defenses in 2009:

   

Congratulations!  to Miao Chen, Ph.D., IIT track, in Biomedical Sciences.  Miao successfully defended his Ph.D. thesis, "Moraxella Catarrhalis-induced innate immune responses in human pulmonary epithelial cells and monocytes," on Monday, November 23, 2009.
(Mentor:  Z. Kevin Pan).

 

Congratulations!  to Junbo Mai, Ph.D., IIT track, in Biomedical Sciences.  Junbo successfully defended his Ph.D. thesis, "Alphavirus nsP2 interacts with host pathways for viral minus-strand synthesis and replication complex stability," on Friday, October 16, 2009.  (Mentor: Dorothea Sawicki).  Junbo accepted a postdoctoral position at the University of California, Riverside, in the laboratory of Dr. Shou-Wei Ding, a virologist whose work on gene silencing in plant virus infections and was one of the first to study this important and universal process for transcription regulation!

Congratulations!  to Vipul Shukla, M.S., IIT track, Master of Science in Biomedical Sciences.  Vipul successfully defended his M.S. thesis, "Intravital imaging of Borrelia burgdorferi in murine skin," on Monday, August 10, 2009.  (Mentor: R. Mark Wooten).
Vipul joined Dr. Viviana Ferreira's lab in the Dept. of Medical Microbiology and Immunology after graduation December 2009 as an MSBS student.
