Welcome to the MSBS-Medical Sciences program at University of Toledo College of Medicine and Life Sciences! In my capacity of Program Director I am your primary point of contact for all academic matters concerning program curriculum and goals, admissions requirements and career advising. I am also Professor in the College of Medicine, and I conduct a good deal of teaching in the MSBS-Medical Sciences curriculum as well as in the MD program, Physician Assistant program and MSBS and PhD programs. My research area of expertise is cardiovascular pathophysiology, particularly on molecular and cellular mechanisms of atherosclerosis, the main cause of coronary heart disease and stroke. My lab specializes on the use of genetically modified mouse models of atherosclerosis to examine mechanisms related to endothelial and macrophage biology as it relates to plaque formation and plaque regression. If you have any questions about the program, you can reach me by email at: Guillermo.Vazquez@utoledo.edu If you leave a voicemail, make sure to provide an email address to contact you back. All questions/requests are answered by email only.

I am the Program Coordinator and the Education Manager for the Department of Physiology and Pharmacology. My research interests include how a science-based post baccalaureate might improve and successfully prepare students for entry into a medical school program.

My intention is that through upholding the key principles of the College of Medicine and Life Sciences of professionalism, service, cooperation, and discovery, every MSBS-Medical Sciences student will achieve their educational objectives.
