Toledo journalist and corporate public relations official (1906-1987); served on Ohio
State Board of Education as a representative of Northwest Ohio's Ninth Congressional
District (1957-1972)
Collection consists of an almost complete run of the Board's minutes during the period,
reports, memoranda, correspondence, and clippings related to the State Board of Education.
Subjects include: Edward E. Holt and Martin W. Essex, superintendents of the State
Board during Ames's tenure; vocational education; and racial issues in school districting.

Collection consists of the personal and profession papers of Glenn Ames, documenting
his career as a professor of History and noted scholar at the University of Toledo
from 1987-2011. The collection documents his research interests and work as a faculty

World War II veteran and Champion Spark Plug employee (1922-2015).
Collection consists primarily of materials from Colthorpe's service during World War
II as a pilot flying over the "Hump" in Asia, as well as items from his 30-year career
with Champion Spark Plug. Materials in this collection include correspondence, photographs,
books, artifacts, and technical drawings from his wartime service and years with Champion.
The collection also contains a smaller amount of material from Colthorpe's childhood,
and Toledo-based companies such as DeVilbiss and Libbey-Owens-Ford. MSS-299, 26 linear

alcohol exposure.

This collection contains biographical information on Lucille Emch, the Emch family
genealogy, research notes and slides related to the history of books and printing,
and records related to Emch’s business as rare book consultant and her involvement
with the Maumee Valley Historical Society Landmarks Committee. This collection contains
many slides and photographs related to the illuminated manuscripts of Medieval and
Renaissance Europe as well as archaeological sites in Greece, Italy, and the Mediterranean

CUMMINGS-ZUCKER CENTER RECORDS, 1913-1997. [PDF]
A residential facility which also operated a school for dependent, neglected, and
underprivileged girls a proper home life and suitable educational and vocational training
as well as providing academic and domestic science training. The school was accredited
by the Toledo Public Schools.
The collection contains administrative records, ephemera/memorabilia, and financial
records of the institution in its various iterations: Girl's Protection Agency (1913-1914),
the Luella Cummings Home (1914-1981), and the Cummings-Zucker Center (1981-1997).

LIBBEY-OWENS-FORD GLASS COMPANY RECORDS, 1851-1991. [→ View Digital Collection]
Glass manufacturer (1818-Present)
This large collection of corporate records includes materials ranging from formal
board of directors' minutes to personal photos of individuals involved with the company's
history. Administrative records include corporate record books from LOF and its predecessors:
Edward Ford Plate Glass Company (1899-1930), Toledo Glass Company (1895-1931), Libbey-Owens
Glass Company (1916-1933), and subsidiaries. Annual reports from LOF Glass Company
(1930-1982) and the Pilkington Group (1988-) provide summaries of corporate activities.
Corporate file records (1895-1958) deal primarily with contracts, subsidiaries, and
notably a government anti-trust investigation of LOF (1930-1948). Publications, speeches,
and reports created by LOF employees and others include manuscripts and research notes
from two company-sponsored corporate histories, corporate newsletters (1939-1980),
and general glass industry materials. The single largest series in the collection
focuses on sales and promotion. There are files on 50 distributors and dealers of
LOF products across the U.S. (1930s-1970s), press releases (1946-1984), and advertising
yearbooks and scrapbooks (1851-1977). "Glass at Work" files serve as a valuable source
of information on the actual uses of LOF products, as well as the advertising department's
use of "real life" applications for promotional purposes. They include files on glazing
in everything from airports to homes (1945-1986). MSS-066, 88 linear feet.

Papers include course materials on various classes taught by Ligibel, including Architectural
Regionalism; Historic Preservation Planning; Historic Resources Survey; and Urban
Visual History Planning. Also included are materials related to various committees
on which he served, newspaper clippings, student papers, and subject files devoted

Multicultural Educational Organization (founded 1936)
The records of this organization include descriptions of various programs organized
by the Lisle Fellowship as well as administrative files which include information
on Units-six week sessions-both domestic and foreign. These six week sessions were
the focus of the Fellowship, encouraging interaction and exchange between individuals

JOSINA JONES LOTT PAPERS, 1949-2000. [PDF]
Educator (1898-1972)
Founder of the Lott Day School, the first of several schools for developmentally disabled
children. Also founded the Lott Sheltered Workshop (later known as Lott Industries)
to provide her students with job skills.
This collection consists of administrative records, biographical and historical materials,

NATHAN HALE COMMUNITY SCHOOL RECORDS, 1973-1995.
The Nathan Hale Community School was a community outreach program fostered by Nathan
Hale Elementary School to expand its facilities for year-round activities. The Nathan
Hale Community School Committee was headed by Bettye Kay, who worked to ensure the
school-aged children of the community would have enrichment outside of their traditional
school day.

SCOTT NEARING COLLECTION, 1943-1988. [PDF]
Radical professor, socialist, World War I era pacifist, author and lecturer, leader
of the "back-to-the-earth" movement (1883-1983)
Nearing's papers consist primarily of newsletters (especially world events); pamphlets
and leaflets on various subjects, including fascism; U.S. economics; capitalism; imperialism
and Sovietism; war; and peace. Nearing was a Social Science professor and dean of
the College of Arts and Sciences at the University of Toledo from 1915 to 1917, but
was discharged because of his pacifist and socialist views. The University of Toledo
Archives also has holdings documenting Dr. Nearing's tenure at UT. MSS-062, 6 inches.

HENRY WALDEMAR NORDMEYER PAPERS, 1905-1962. [PDF]
Professor of German language and literature, University of Michigan (1891-1981)
Collection consists primarily of extensive correspondence with colleagues and relatives.
Principal familial correspondents include Nordmeyer's wife, Friedel; his parents,
Ernst and Mary; his sisters; and his brothers. Correspondence with friends and lovers
is also comprehensive; it documents the reaction in the 1920s to Victorian social
mores. Slightly more than half of the correspondence is in German -- scanty outgoing
letters are often in shorthand. The Canaday Center also houses Nordmeyer's massive

Papers of Scott High School, which later became a landmark institution in its concern
for minority rights, particularly those of the Black population. The collection includes
materials of University of Toledo Professor Emeritus, David Tavel, and Associate Professor
Emeritus, Sam R. Snyder, both of the College of Education. Also included are Lucas
County and Toledo Public Schools publications, containing maps, a school directory,
course descriptions, and census statistics; an interview with Watson Welever, a former
student; and the authors' research materials for To Learning's Fount, consisting of
index cards with notations from the Scottonian, Blade microfilms, and other sources,

the lives of persons with visual impairments by teaching vocational and life skills
