CUMMINGS-ZUCKER CENTER RECORDS, 1913-1997. [PDF]
A residential facility which also operated a school; it gave dependent, neglected,
and underprivileged girls a proper home life and suitable educational and vocational
training in addition to providing academic and domestic science training. The school
was accredited by the Toledo Public Schools. The collection includes administrative
Records, Ephemera/Memorabilia, and Financial Records of the institution in its various
iterations: Girl's Protection Agency (1913-1914), the Luella Cummings Home (1914-1981),
and the Cummings-Zucker Center (1981-1997). MSS-130, 5.75 linear feet.

Organization that serves children and their families who are affected by prenatal
alcohol exposure.
The collection consists of administrative records, publications, and audio/visual
materials that document Double ARC’s operations, activities, and accomplishments. Double ARC merged with A

Nursing student (born ca. 1906)
This small collection consists primarily of correspondence and photographs documenting the experiences of Ernst and other nursing students at the Toledo State Hospital in 1926. MSS-340, 0.25 linear feet.

HUGH GREGORY GALLAGHER PAPERS, 1880-2002. [PDF]
Disability Rights Activist (1932-2004)
Paralyzed by polio contracted at the age of 19, Gallagher was known as the "father
of the disability rights movement." He was the author of the Architectural Barriers
Act of 1968, and wrote several books and articles. Gallagher was also a respected
Franklin D. Roosevelt scholar. Perhaps his best-known book is FDR's Splendid Deception, which explored the former president's disability and how he hid it from the public.
This collection contains correspondence, biographical and family files, Mr. Gallagher's
writings, research files, senate files, photographic material, awards, and artifacts.

Local 12 (Toledo) president, regional director and international vice president of
the United Automobile, Aircraft, Agricultural Implement Workers of America (UAW-CIO,
UAW-AFL-CIO) (1900-1969)
Collection includes Local 12 (Toledo) scrapbooks, with clippings from Toledo and Detroit
general and labor newspapers, runs of United Auto Worker and Solidarity (1947-1963),
interviews with long-time members of Local 12 (1963), and correspondence from the
1960s (primarily relating to a federal case against Gosser). Gosser's official UAW
correspondence files and related items are housed in the Walter P. Reuther Library,

Physician and soldier (1880-1925)
Collection consists of four photographs of Dr. Harman; his Teacher's Common School
certificate and certification of appointment to the rank of First Lieutenant in the
Officers' Reserve Corps of the U.S. Army, and ten medical school notebooks which cover
areas of study such as genito-urinary diseases, neurology, bacteriology, chemistry,
pathology, and dermatology. MSS-110, 5 inches.

Former President and CEO of Family Service of Northwest Ohio, 1998-2015.
This collection consists of a single portrait, measuring approximately 35 x 27, of
James E. Jones, who had served as President and CEO of Family Service of Northwest
Ohio from 1998 until 2015. Family Service of Northwest Ohio commissioned Leslie Adams,
a prominent Ohio artist whose patrons include governors, judges, and university and
Fortune 500 presidents, to do the portrait, which is charcoal on paper. MSS-346, one

This collection contains letters written by Dr. Howard Madigan to the Toledo Blade

of local healthcare issues. All the letters in the collection were published in the
Toledo Blade and appear here as newspaper clippings.

Continuing medical education organization (1947-1968)
This collection documents activities supported by the Maumee Valley Hospital Advancement
Trust, 1947-1968. The trust was established to promote medical education in northwest
Ohio through the sponsorship of lectures by prominent national physicians and through
funding for the library of the Academy of Medicine of Toledo and Lucas County. Money
to support the trust came from reimbursements for the hospital’s care for indigent

Local Neurosurgeon, World War II Veteran (1905-1983)
Collection contains scrapbooks and memoirs kept by Dr. Schnitker when he worked in
England from 1936-1938 as a Harvey Cushing Travelling Fellow, as well as diaries documenting
his experiences in the Army. He served first in Utah from 1942-1945, then in India
from 1945-1946. Also included are photographs of Dr. Schnitker and plaques that he
received for his medical practice in Toledo, Ohio. MSS-142, 1 linear foot.

Pharmacist and civic leader of Toledo, Ohio (1893-1987)
This collection consists of scrapbooks and literary productions documenting Stewart's
activities and honors. She was active in the Berea in Korea Foundation, the Pan-Pacific
and South East Asia Women's Association, the Indiana Avenue Nursery, and the Delta
Sigma Theta sorority. Subjects include child care, famous figures in African-American
