The 2026-27 Free Application For Student Aid (FAFSA) is now available to complete through StudentAid.Gov. The new year's FAFSA comes with a few changes. There are less questions than a few years ago and you must provide consent in order to complete the FAFSA and be eligible for federal financial aid.

GRAD PLUS LOAN INFORMATION
Beginning July 1, 2026, the Federal Direct Graduate PLUS Loan is no longer available to most new graduate and professional student borrowers due to changes in federal law. New medical students who begin borrowing on or after July 1, 2026, are generally not eligible to receive Graduate PLUS Loans.
Students who need funding beyond their Federal Direct Unsubsidized Loan eligibility may wish to explore private educational loan options.
Continuing Medical Students
Medical students who received a Federal Direct Graduate PLUS Loan prior to July 1, 2026, may remain eligible to borrow additional Graduate PLUS Loans under the federal grandfathering provisions, provided they continue to meet all federal eligibility requirements.
If you are a continuing student who remains eligible, you may apply for a Graduate PLUS Loan by completing the following steps:
- Complete the Graduate PLUS Loan application at StudentAid.gov.
- Complete the Graduate PLUS Master Promissory Note (MPN), if applicable.
- Notify the HSC Financial Aid Office if you would like to borrow less than your approved eligibility.
You cannot accept the Grad Plus loan through your My UT Portal. This loan type requires a separate application at StudentAid.gov
If you are applying for the Grad Plus loan for a specific term, you will need to change the loan period dates on the Grad Plus loan application on studentaid.gov. The application defaults to a Fall/Spring Loan. Please be sure to also complete the Master Promissory Note (MPN) after completing the application.
The Graduate Plus Loan application for 2026-27 is now available through StudentAid.gov.
The 2026-27 loan period dates are as follows:
- Fall/Spring: Aug 2026 - May 2027 (Default)
