SElling Scenario

Students will be selling 3M™ 775L Cubitron™ II Discs and the clean sanding system.   3M™ 775L Cubitron™ II Discs and the clean sanding system are 3M Science, Applied to Life and have revolutionized the industry with their Precision Shaped Ceramic Grain.  The triangular shaped ceramic mineral is designed to slice through the substrate, rather than gouging or “plowing” like conventional abrasives, resulting in a disc that cuts up to 2x as fast and lasts up to 6x as long as conventional abrasives.  3M has been a technological leader in abrasive technology for over 100 years. The Cubitron II brand was introduced in 2009.

To help students develop a stronger understanding of how selling interactions vary based on buying role within an organization and channel involvement, rounds of the competition will focus on interactions with those various roles.

The profiles for Round 1, Wild Card, Quarter Finals, and Semi Finals will be emailed to the university coaches in advance of the UTISC.  A change to the social style, needs, and/or objections could occur for Wild Card.  Reset information to help students confirm and fill in information from the previous round will be shared in the Holding Room when a student checks-in so each student has the same amount of time to view the information.  The profile for Finals will be distributed shortly after the Finalists are announced.  The profile will be passed out in waves to ensure that each Finalist has the same amount of time to prep before he/she role plays.  The buyer could be any role or company related to the profile's situation.

Role plays will be 15 minutes.

Judges will use the following evaluation sheet.  Competitors will receive their evaluation sheets at the end of the competition.  Judges will be a combination of corporate and faculty, and faculty will not judge students who are from their own university.

Student Preparation

Go to the UTISC Showcase and click on the Preparation channel to see the product, demo, industry, and sample role play videos.  There are also videos on the UTISC overview and general university prep.

For complete access to the UTISC Showcase for all UTISC role plays (each year has its own channel), please check with your faculty coach for your university's login.

A more complete 3M™ 775L Cubitron™ II Discs Overview that will be critical to preparation is included in the Prospect Profile that has been emailed to the universities.

Product samples and related materials that can be used for training and demonstration purposes are planned and will be shipped to the participating universities prior to the competition (mid December is the target) so universities can begin to prepare over the holiday break.  Demo kits will be collected onsite by the end of the competition so they can be re-used.  Demo kits that are not returned will be taken out of a university's travel reimbursement.
