Maintaining a healthy work-life harmony can help avoid “burn-out” and support good physical health and mental wellbeing. We offer a variety of programs, services and resources to harmonize your university work with your personal life.

Voluntary Summer Reduced Hours

This program allows individuals to take additional unpaid time off during the summer and assists UToledo in decreasing staff hours paid in departments where workloads are reduced. in the summer.

Workplace flexibility helps us with this and provides a way to manage people, time, space, and workload. UToledo supports flexible work arrangements (FWAs) that achieve productivity, enhance positive employee relations, and that align with staffing objectives.

Winter Break

Between December twenty-fifth and January first all nonhospital and non-patient care employees in an active pay status the day before and the workday immediately following the winter break will be provided winter break days which shall be used in accordance with this policy.

 

WORK-LIFE HARMONY PROGRAMS 

Employee Assistance Program (EAP), Impact Solutions offers confidential support for you, your spouse/partner, household members, dependent(s) living away from home, and parents and parents-in-law. They offers a wide range of benefits to help improve mental health, reduce stress and make life easier. Access a variety of expanded services including unlimited phone consultation 24 hours a day, as well as legal, financial and identity theft recovery assistance, and child and elder care referral assistance.

Rocket Health, University Wellness and Health Promotion, supports the well-being of employees by offering programs and resources based on the dimensions of wellness:  physical, emotional, environmental, social, spiritual, occupational, financial and intellectual. When balance is achieved in each dimension, you achieve the highest level of well-being.

Recreational Services, enjoy the benefits of exercise and fitness classes with a discounted membership and access to both our facilities, Student Recreation Center on Main Campus and the Morse Fitness Center on the Health Science Campus.

Exercise is Medicine On Campus (EIM-OC),  promotes physical activity as a vital sign of health. EIM-OC offers a package to faculty, staff, students, alumni and retirees. The package includes a fitness assessment, six 30-minute personal training sessions, eight-week Student Recreation Center and Morse Fitness Center membership and two health coaching sessions.

Professional Development Programs, the Training and Organizational Development team offers programs that drive employees to learn and apply new knowledge and skills for personal development and organizational  performance.

WORK-LIFE HARMONY RESOURCES

Pregnancy and Parenting Community Resources The Catharine S. Eberly Center for Women located on Main Campus advocates for and provides Pregnancy and Parenting Community Resources. Learn where multiple lactation rooms and family friendly spaces are on both campuses and how the greater Toledo community has a variety of resources for pregnant and parenting individuals. 

Early Learning Center, is a local accredited education center serving infants through preschool age 5 and school-aged children (5 to 10 years old) during the summer months. Early Learning Center provides quality, affordable childcare for the children of students, faculty and staff of The University of Toledo and the Toledo community

The Center for Successful Aging is committed to providing quality education, research and services to older adults and their families.

Career Development Plan, are tools to help you  outline the next steps in your career. These tools will first help employees assess their current skills, experiences and personality and then develop an action plan to progress to their next career goal.  Located in the employee toolkit in the development section.

Mentorship Program, allows for employees to take ownership of their own personal and professional development through mentorship. This is a relationship with a more knowledgeable and experienced person that will serve as your mentor to help guide and nurture your professional development and growth. Individual Coaching

Career Branding Coaching: These individual coaching session(s) include working together to create and/or update your resume, cover letter and LinkedIn profile; strategically prepare for interviews and practice commonly asked questions. These session(s) will help you feel confident to convince the hiring manager you’re the best candidate for the job!  

Career Development Plan Coaching: Creating a plan for your career development can be difficult. Your career decisions can affect your lifestyle, health and overall sense of satisfaction; it is important to make informed choices based on who you are, what you value, and what you have to offer. This three-step process includes a career development self-assessment, coaching session to clarify goals and assistance establishing your career development plan.  

Work-Life Harmony Coaching:  Are you struggling to maintain work-life harmony?  Work-life harmony coaching sessions help identify the right balance between your professional and personal responsibilities. In partnership with University Wellness, Training and OD coaches will work together to help answer your work-life questions and find resources and solutions that work best for you!  Achieve work-life harmony to have a more happy and healthier lifestyle.  

Executive Coaching: A professional and collaborative relationship between a manager/leader and a trained coach with the purpose of enhancing the individual’s leadership or management performance and development.  Coaching provides a safe, structured, and trustworthy environment in which to offer support for the individual and provides behavioral insights intended to accelerate the leader’s effectiveness.

Voluntary Reduction of Hours for Salaried Staff Policy, UToledo recognizes that situations may arise in which an employee may need and may benefit from a temporary reduction in work hours.

Voluntary Summer Reduced Hours Program, offers  non-hospital and non-patient care employees an opportunity to voluntarily reduce the number of hours they work during the summer.  This program allows individuals to take additional unpaid time off during the summer and assists UToledo in decreasing staff hours paid in departments where workloads are reduced in the summer.

Flexible Work Policy, UToledo strives to find ways to improve upon employee engagement, enhance job satisfaction, empower leaders, all while finding ways to deliver exceptional service to our customers and meet university goals. Workplace flexibility helps us with this and provides a way to manage people, time, space, and workload. Winter Break Policy, the normal academic and administrative operations of the University will close down from December twenty-fifth to January first, with only designated essential services running. Between December twenty-fifth and January first all nonhospital and non-patient care employees in an active pay status the day before and the workday immediately following the winter break will be provided winter break days which shall be used in accordance with this policy.
