Maintaining a healthy work-life harmony can help avoid “burn-out” and support good physical health and mental wellbeing. We offer a variety of programs, services and resources to harmonize your university work with your personal life.

Wellness is an integration of a variety of dimensions including physical, emotional, intellectual, financial and environmental. Longevity wellness refers to healthy activities and habits with the goal of living an active, longer life.

Through AllOne Health, UToledo provides an Employee Assistance Program that offers a wide range of benefits to help improve mental health, reduce stress and make life easier.

Winter Break

UToledo’s winter break schedule has provided eligible employees extra days off when most departments are operationally slow - from Dec. 25 through Jan. 1 – since 2017.

 

WORK-LIFE HARMONY PROGRAMS 

Employee Assistance Program (EAP), AllOneHealth offers confidential support for you, your spouse/partner, household members, dependent(s) living away from home, and parents and parents-in-law. The program offers a wide range of benefits to help improve mental health, reduce stress and make life easier. Access a variety of expanded services including unlimited phone consultation 24 hours a day, as well as legal, financial and identity theft recovery assistance, and child and elder care referral assistance.

Rocket Health, University Wellness and Health Promotion supports the well-being of employees by offering programs and resources based on the dimensions of wellness: physical, emotional, environmental, social, spiritual, occupational, financial and intellectual. When balance is achieved in each dimension, you achieve the highest level of well-being.

Recreational Services provides opportunities to enjoy the benefits of exercise and fitness classes with a discounted membership and access to both our facilities, Student Recreation Center on Main Campus and the Morse Fitness Center on the Health Science Campus.

Professional Development Programs offered by the Training and Organizational Development team drive employees to learn and apply new knowledge and skills for personal development and organizational performance.

Employee Engagement and Recognition: We recognize your excellence! View the array of items we offer to engage your feedback and award your achievements.

Voluntary Summer Reduced Hours allows individuals to take additional unpaid time off during the summer and assists UToledo in decreasing staff hours paid in departments where workloads are reduced in the summer.

WORK-LIFE HARMONY RESOURCES

Reasonable Accommodations are available for individuals applying for employment or faculty and staff currently employed at UToledo who need reasonable workplace accommodations in accordance with federal law as defined under the Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA).

Pregnancy and Parenting Community Resources are availalbe through the Catharine S. Eberly Center for Women. Learn where lactation rooms and family friendly spaces are on campus and resources avaialble in the greater Toledo community for pregnant and parenting individuals. 

Early Learning Center is a local accredited education center serving infants through preschool (age 5) as well as school-aged children (5 to 10 years old) during the summer months. Early Learning Center provides quality, affordable childcare for the children of students, faculty and staff of UToledo and the Toledo community

Career Development Plan tools are availalbe to help you outline the next steps in your career. These tools will first help employees assess their current skills, experiences and personality, and then develop an action plan to progress to their next career goal.

Mentorship Program allows for employees to take ownership of their own personal and professional development through mentorship. This is a relationship with a more knowledgeable and experienced person that will serve as your mentor to help guide and nurture your professional development and growth.

Remote Work Opportunities are available for limited departments and/or job classifications as deemed necessary for efficient operation of the University. 

Individual Coaching

Career Branding Coaching: Individual coaching session(s) include working together to create and/or update your resume, cover letter and LinkedIn profile, and strategically prepare for interviews and practice commonly asked questions. These session(s) will help you feel confident to convince the hiring manager you’re the best candidate for the job.

Career Development Plan Coaching: Creating a plan for your career development can be difficult. Your career decisions can affect your lifestyle, health and overall sense of satisfaction. It is important to make informed choices based on who you are, what you value and what you have to offer. This three-step process includes a career development self-assessment, coaching session to clarify goals and assistance establishing your career development plan.  

Work-Life Harmony Coaching:  Are you struggling to maintain work-life harmony? Coaching sessions help identify the right balance between your professional and personal responsibilities. In partnership with University Wellness, coaches will work to help answer your work-life questions and find resources and solutions that work best for you.  Achieve work-life harmony to have a more happy and healthier lifestyle.  

Executive Coaching: A professional and collaborative relationship between a manager/leader and a trained coach with the purpose of enhancing the individual’s leadership or management performance and development.  Coaching provides a safe, structured and trustworthy environment in which to offer support for the individual and provides behavioral insights intended to accelerate the leader’s effectiveness.

Leaves of Absence: Discover the leave options that are available to you to navigate a healthy work and personal life.

Voluntary Reduction of Hours for Salaried Staff Policy: UToledo recognizes that situations may arise in which an employee may need and may benefit from a temporary reduction in work hours.

Voluntary Summer Reduced Hours Program: Allows eligible employees to take additional unpaid time off during the summer and assists UToledo in decreasing staff hours paid in departments where workloads are reduced in the summer.

Remote Work Policy: Establishes guidelines for remote work arrangements, when such arrangements are in the best interests of the University, enable operational efficiencies and enhance the productivity of the department and the employee.

Winter Break Policy: Normal academic and administrative operations close down from Dec. 25-Jan. 1, with only designated essential services running.

FINANCIAL WELL-BEING

Retirement: If you are considering retiring soon or within the next couple of years, then there are some important factors to consider. View resources available to ensure you have a smooth transition to retirement.
