Cost of Attendance
The UToledo Board of Trustees determines tuition rates and fees that show on your tuition statement (bill). Rates are set in June for the Fall, Spring, and Summer semester to follow. Rates are published in the Finance Brochure on the Office of the Treasurer webpage. The costs listed below are for full-time enrollment for the 2024-2025 academic year and may differ from rates set in future years.

Other Expenses of Attending
The following will also appear on your tuition statement.
All UToledo students are required to have health insurance. Coverage through the University is $898.00 for Fall and $1,394.00 for Spring & Summer combined. You may waive the health insurance coverage if you have coverage under another qualifying plan as long as you submit your waiver by the deadline. Qualifying plans must be filed and approved in the U.S. and be ACA compliant.
This is an optional fee of $10.00 a semester. Paying it provides students with legal advice, representation, referral, and education. The fee is automatically charged unless you opt out when registering for classes & paying your bill.
This is an optional fee of $5.00 a semester. Paying contributes to funding student proposed and executed projects that promote a healthy ecology. The fee is automatically charged unless you opt out when registering for classes & paying your bill.
For an enrollment fee of $60.00 in Fall and Spring semesters and $50.00 in the summer, this allows you to break your semester bill into interest free payments.
Other expenses
In addition to tuition and fees, there are other expenses associated with being in the program. These are not billed with your tuition, and you are responsible for paying them on your own. The figures below are accurate at this time; however, they may change in the future. It is possible that this list does not cover every expense that may come up.
Required expenses
- Background check/fingerprint scan: $75.00 annually when completed at UT
- Health physical: annually
- Textbooks, supplies, and educational software subscriptions: $600-800 in the first semester, $0-$300 for subsequent semesters
- American Occupational Therapy Association membership: $75.00 annually
- CPR Certification: $31.00, twice during your enrollment
- Practice certification exam: $30.00 taken before your final semester
Optional expenses:
- On Campus Parking Permit: cost varies by type
- Student Occupational Therapy Association membership: $15.00 annually
- Pi Theta Epsilon honor’s society: $75.00
- Graduation cap, gown, and hood: ~$100.00
Variable expenses
- Travel: you may be placed up to a 60-mile driving radius from UToledo for fieldwork. Some fieldwork sites require paid parking.
- Project expenses: some class assignments will require materials that the program will not supply. Instructors carefully monitor these to be sure they are reasonable.
After graduation
After you complete the OTD program, you must pass the national certification exam (NBCOT exam) in order to apply for a license to practice in any US state. The cost of the exam is $515.00. State practice license fees vary. Ohio’s is $100.00 for the first year.

Financial Aid
Financial aid for graduate students is available via Stafford Student Loans and Supplemental Loans for students (governmental) as well as through The University of Toledo itself. Additionally, OTD students can qualify for the college work/study program, through which a variety of jobs are offered by UT. American Occupational Therapy Foundation (AOTF) sponsors scholarships for students who are student members of the American Occupational Therapy Association. Applications are available from the AOTF.
Several other outside sources offer scholarships for OT students. The UToledo OTD Program Director will forward information about any additional scholarship opportunities to students accepted to the program.
