Michael Jakobson, Professor, received his Ph.D. from the University of Minnesota, where he specialized in Modern European and Russian history, and joined the University of Toledo faculty in 1991.

Dr. Jakobson has authored and co-authored six books, including Origins of the GULAG: The Soviet Prison-Camp System, 1917-1934 (1993) and Crime and Punishment in Russian Musical Folklore Before 1917 (2006), and numerous articles which appeared in leading professional journals, such as American Historical Review and Europe-Asia Studies. He has also presented papers at national and international conferences and received various awards.
