Andrew HsuAndrew T. Hsu, Ph.D.

Dr. Andrew Hsu was named as provost and executive vice president for academic affairs at The University of Toledo in July 2016 following a national search.

Prior to joining UT, Hsu served as dean of the Charles W. Davidson College of Engineering at San Jose State University.

At SJSU he led a comprehensive strategic planning and implementation process, with participation from faculty and staff, students, alumni and industry partners.

Before joining SJSU in February 2013, he was the associate vice president for research and dean of the graduate school of Wright State University in Dayton, and professor of mechanical and materials engineering.

Hsu’s research interests are in aerodynamics, turbulent combustion, and fuel cell technology. He has authored or co-authored more than 100 technical publications in his field.

He started his academic career at the University of Miami in Florida as an associate professor and director of the Aerospace Engineering Program. Later, he served as associate dean for research and graduate programs for six years at the Purdue School of Engineering of Indiana University Purdue University Indianapolis.

Earlier in his career, he served as a research engineer at the NASA Glenn Research Center in Cleveland, and was a staff scientist at Rolls-Royce North America

He is an associate fellow of the American Institute of Aeronautics and Astronautics and a fellow of the American Council on Education. He received his doctorate in aerospace engineering from the Georgia Institute of Technology.
