Travel Grant
Center for International Studies and Programs Travel Grant (graduate, undergraduate)
The Center for International Studies and Programs (CISP) Travel Grantwas established to provide needed funds for University of Toledo students to participate
in quality international programs. Funds for CISP Travel Grants are generated through
students’ general fees and are available to full-time students who meet all of the
requirements listed below. CISP Travel Grants are awarded in amounts from $200 to
$1,200. Grant money awarded must be used for travel expenses specific to the overseas
program listed on the submitted application.

| Congress-Bundestag Youth Exchange for Young Professionals | The Congress-Bundestag Youth Exchange for Young Professionals (CBYX) is accepting
applications through December 1st for the 2013-2014 program year. CBYX is a yearlong
fellowship to study and intern in Germany, open to applicants in all career fields,
though preference is given to students in vocational, technical, engineering, business,
agricultural, and scientific fields. Students traditionally underrepresented in study
abroad opportunities are especially encouraged to apply. The fellowship is funded
by the US and German governments through a grant provided by the US Department of
State, Bureau of Educational and Cultural Affairs, under the authority of the Fulbright-Hays
Act of 1961, as amended.
The CBYX program annually provides 75 participants with two months of intensive German language training, a semester of study at German University or University of Applied Sciences, a five-month internship with a German company in the participant's career field, housing, transatlantic airfare, health insurance, and a monthly stipend for living expenses. Prior German language knowledge is not required, though it is preferred. Applicants should have clear career goals and some relevant work experience in their career field, which may include summer, part-time, or internship work. Participants must be between the ages of 18-24, possess a high school diploma or equivalent, and be US citizens or permanent residents. Interested applicants can apply online at www.CBYX.info. |
| 2013 Critical Language Scholarship (CLS) Program | The U. S. Department of State is pleased to announce the scholarship competition for
the 2013 Critical Language Scholarship (CLS) Program in thirteen critical need foreign
languages. The CLS Program provides fully-funded group-based intensive language instruction
and structured cultural enrichment experiences for seven to ten weeks for U.S. citizen
undergraduate and graduate students. Languages offered: Arabic, Azerbaijani, Bangla,
Chinese, Hindi, Indonesian, Japanese, Korean, Persian, Punjabi, Russian, Turkish,
and Urdu. The application is available online at (http://www.clscholarship.org/). Applications will be due November 15, 2012. Prior to preparing their application, interested students should review the full eligibility and application information on the CLS Program website (www.clscholarship.org/applicants). Arabic, Chinese, Persian, Russian, and Japanese institutes have language prerequisites, which can also be found at the link above. Students from all academic disciplines, including business, engineering, law, medicine, sciences, and humanities are encouraged to apply. While there is no service requirement attached to CLS Program awards, participants are expected to continue their language study beyond the scholarship period, and later apply their critical language skills in their professional careers. |
| Study Abroad in Japan - The Bridge Scholarship | The Bridging Scholarship program will award 20 scholarships to American students participating
in study-abroad programs in Japan that begin in Spring 2013. Undergraduate students
majoring in any field of study and attending any recognized exchange or independent
program in Japan are eligible to apply for these scholarships. Recipients of Bridging Scholarships will receive stipends of $2,500 or $4,000, depending on the length of their study program in Japan. The scholarships are funded by donations from U.S. corporations and foundations to the US-Japan Bridging Foundation. Since 1999, the Bridging Scholarship program has awarded 1,250 scholarships to students studying abroad in Japan. Most recently, 90 students from colleges and universities in 33 states received scholarships for study in Japan beginning in the Fall 2012 semester. | Donald N. Nelson Scholarship for Study Abroad [undergraduate] | Ohio International Consortium Study Abroad Nelson Scholarship is for an Ohio resident who is a full-time, degree-seeking undergraduate student. Be at least a rising sophomore with a minimum 3.0 GPA. The selected student must return to the home campus for at least one semester during which the follow-on project will be completed. Be accepted into an accredited study abroad program that has been approved by the home school. Programs must be at least one semester in duration. Preference is given to first-time study abroad applicants studying in a non-English-speaking country and taking courses in the native language of the host country. (OIC)! |
| Benjamin A. Gilman International Scholarship Program [undergraduate] | This program, administered by the Institute of International Education, seeks to diversify the kinds of students who study abroad and the countries and regions where they go. Scholarships of up to $5,000 will be awarded for semester and year-long programs, depending on the program length and student need. Undergraduates who are U.S. citizens and receive Federal Pell Grant funding are eligible to apply. |
| Boren Awards for International Study [graduate, undergraduate] | Boren Awards are funded by the National Security Education Program within the Department of Defense. Boren Scholarships offer support for U.S. undergraduates to study abroad in world regions critical to U.S. interests. Boren Fellowships enable U.S. graduate students to add an important international and language component to their education through specialization in area study, language study or increased language proficiency. |
| Fulbright U.S. Student Program [graduate, undergraduate] | This program, administered by the Institute for International Education, is designed to give B.S./B.A. graduates, masters and doctoral candidates and young professionals and artists opportunities for personal development and international experience. Grants last nine to twelve months and are available in 140 countries. UNC students must apply for through the Center for Global Initiatives. |
