2012/2013 FILM fridays

FALL 2013
Unless otherwise noted, these events are held on the dates listed at 7:30 p.m. in the University of Toledo Center for Performing Arts (PA1039). Each of the fall events are $3 each and your ticket includes popcorn and a small soft drink.
SEPT 14 | Kafka (Steven Soderbergh, 1991)
Existential writer Franz Kafka works during the day at an insurance company where
events lead him to discover a mysterious underground society with strange suppressive
goals.
SEPT 28 | Cinema Baby Steps (varies)
A night films made by our students when they were kids.
OCT 26 | Orpheus (1950)
Orphee is a poet who becomes obsessed with Death (the Princess). They fall in love.
Orphee's wife, Eurydice, is killed by the Princess' henchmen and Orphee goes after
her into the Underworld. Although they have become dangerously entangled, the Princess
sends Orphee back out of the Underworld, to carry on his life with Eurydice.
NOV 2-3 | Censorship Symposium
Screenings, lectures and discussions of issues relevant to freedom of expression in
contemporary society.
NOV 9 | Honor in the Valley of Tears (Dow, 2010)
Join us in honoring Veteran's Day with this special documentary screening. Director
Eric Dow will be present to introducethe film and answer questions following the screening.
SPRING 2013
JAN 18 | Do the Right Thing (Lee, 1989)
On the hottest day of the year on a street in the Bedford-Stuyvesant section of Brooklyn,
everyone's hate and bigotry smolders and builds until it explodes into violence.
Faculty Film Screenings
7:30 p.m. in the Center for Performing Arts - PA 1039
No charge. Refreshments will be served. Screenings will be followed by a discussion
of the work.

Aspiring Filmmakers Showcase
Screening of student works selected in juried competition. (Same works screened at
both locations and dates.)
