Planning Your Visit: The Basics
Thank you for visiting the Ward M. Canaday Center for Special Collections! Please take note of the following when planning your visit:
- The Canaday Center is open Monday to Friday 8 AM to 5 PM, with the Center closing during the lunch period of 12 PM to 1 PM.
- Advanced notice of your visit is HIGHLY recommended so that we can provide you with
the best and most efficient service possible:
- You can discuss your research needs with one of our staff members, allowing us to determine if the materials we house will meet those needs.
- We can retrieve the materials ahead of your visit, saving you more time for research.
- Without advanced notice of at least 48 hours, requests for 10 boxes or more may not be fulfilled in full upon your visit.
- Some of the Center's materials are housed off campus at the Northwest Ohio Regional Book Depository in Perrysburg, Ohio, and will require at least 72 hours' notice.
- Due to the intensive nature of archival research, we recommend arriving no later than 4:00 to make the best use of your valuable time.
- Staff will stop retrieving material at 4:15.
- The Canaday Center is located on the fifth floor of the William S. Carlson Library in the middle of the University of Toledo's main campus. Recommended parking includes surface lots 10 and 13. To view the campus map, click here.
- Guest parking passes are $5/day and can be purchased by clicking here (scroll down to the bottom of the page). They are the equivalent of a C permit. Metered parking is also available in surface lot 11 for short visits.
- When you enter the Library, you will pass the Circulation Desk on your right as you head straight toward the elevators. Take an elevator to the fifth floor and turn left towards a set of doors that leads to the Art Gallery/Quiet Study area. The Canaday Center is to your left. Enter the exhibit area and follow the signs to the Reading Room where you will be greeted by one of our friendly staff members.
