Dr. S. Amjad Hussain was appointed to the UT Board of Trustees in 2007. He is professor emeritus of thoracic cardiovascular surgery at the University of Toledo College of Medicine where he has been on volunteer faculty for 33-years. He is also an op-ed columnist for Toledo Blade and a number of other publications. Dr. Hussain currently serves as a member of the Academic and Student Affairs Committee and the Clinical Affairs Committee.
He is an award winning photographer, an internationally recognized explorer, a community leader and an award winning author who has written eight books on as diverse a subject as religion, culture, history and international relations.
Since 1976, Dr. Hussain has visited Pakistan annually to teach at Khyber Medical College, his alma mater, in Peshawar. He has also been a visiting professor to various institutions in Pakistan, China, Libya, and India and also in the U.S.
Dr. Hussain has taken on leadership roles in numerous organizations in the greater Toledo area. Among them, he has served as president of the Islamic Center of Greater Toledo, the Toledo Surgical Society, and the Academy of Medicine of Toledo. On a national level he has served as president of the Association of Pakistani Physicians of North America and Khyber Medical College Alumni Association of North America. In 1994 he endowed a visiting professorship for his alma mater Khyber Medical College at the University of Toledo College of Medicine.
Dr. Hussain was married to the late Dottie Brown Hussain and has three grown children.
