Master of Business Administration – Health Systems Management (specialization)

The MBA with a specialization in Healthcare Management is designed to prepare graduates with knowledge in both healthcare delivery and business. As a result, it is best suited for applicants who possess education and/or experience in at least one of these areas. Applicants who have education and/or experience in neither area may still earn the degree, but would require more course work than typical for the MBA. Learners complete AACSB accredited graduate level Business courses in Information Technology and E-Business, Supply Chain Management, Accounting for Decision Making, Financial Systems, Strategic Marketing and Analysis, Results-Based Management, International Business, and Strategic Management. Learners achieve the specialization by completing four Public Health courses in one of three concentrations: 1) Public Health Administration, 2) Health Promotion and Education, or 3) Public Health Epidemiology. The MBA is Health Systems Management curriculum includes the following.  

a)      The core MBA curriculum consists of the following courses/ MBA courses needed (8-13 courses)

• BANS 5210 Economics for Business Decisions (see PUBH 600)
• FINA 5310 Managerial Finance
• OPMT 5520 Analysis of Manufacturing and Service Systems

• BUAD 6100 Accounting for Decision Making
• BUAD 6200 Financial Systems
• BUAD 6300 Strategic Marketing and Analysis
• BUAD 6400 Results-Based Management
• BUAD 6500 International Business
• BUAD 6600 Supply Chain Management
• BUAD 6800 Information Technology and E-Business
• BUAD 6900 Strategic Management Capstone

 Plus the following electives to complete the MBA specialization.

1. MBA in Health Care System Management with Public Health Administration concentration. The following four courses are required for this concentration. All courses are 3 credit hours.
   1. PUBH 604 Public Health Administration
   2. PUBH 621 Management of Public Health Agencies
   3. PUBH 622 Budget and Finance in Public Health
   4. PUBH 628 Economics, Marketing, and Human Resources

OR,

1. MBA in Health Care System Management with Health Promotion and Education concentration. The following four courses are required for this concentration. All courses are 3 credit hours.
   1. PUBH 620 Methods and Materials in Public Health
   2. PUBH 630 Community Health Organizations
   3. PUBH 646 Health Promotion Programs
   4. PUBH 680 Evaluation of Health Programs

OR,

1. MBA in Health Care System Management with Public Health Epidemiology concentration. The following four courses are required for this concentration. All courses are 3 credit hours. PUBH 601 is required for the concentration and three of the remaining courses are required.
   1. PUBH 601 Public Health Epidemiology
   2. PUBH 600/800 Public Health Biostatistics
   3. PUBH 612/812 Infectious Disease Epidemiology
   4. PUBH 615/815 Clinical Epidemiology
   5. PUBH 618/818 Cancer Epidemiology
